Reviews
The bread and butter were amazing, the crab cake was crispy outside and tender inside with lots of crab meat, and the wagyu was cooked perfectly.
Huge thanks to my server YUNSU — incredibly kind and attentive, and gave great recommendations for both food and wine based on my preferences. Even though I was dining alone, I felt very well taken care of the entire time.
Great food, warm service, and a very comfortable atmosphere. I would definitely come back and highly recommend this place, especially for solo diners as well.
I got the wagyu tartar, Denver charcoal grilled steak, and creme brulee. Honestly the best steak I’ve had, it was perfectly done and seasoned.
If you want a top tier steak for an amazing deal during DineOut then this is a must try.
While I was generally pleased with the food and knew what I was getting into with a high-end steak house, I was left with a very sour impression after I realized I had doubled tipped. I was not informed about the auto-gratuity of 18% which I did not expect as we were only a group of 6 (including 2 kids who did not make a mess). So I tipped an additional amount, essentially tipping twice. Restaurants usually inform you of an auto-gratuity, so I did not appreciate that. The service was not so impeccable to warrant an 18% auto-gratuity either. It was not bad, but standard. They did gift us a dessert for our birthday which I appreciated, but they chose to bring it out (with lit candle) when the birthday person was in the bathroom. If it was stellar service, they would have waited for birthday person to come back. I did enjoy the food and it’s nice to have a high end steak option in Richmond. The decor is also beautiful. Unfortunately after unknowingly paying 30% gratuity, I’m left with a very bad impression.
From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt upscale yet welcoming — modern, elegant, and perfect for both special occasions and a refined night out. The steaks were cooked to perfection: beautifully seared on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside. Every dish was plated thoughtfully, and you could tell the kitchen takes real pride in quality and detail.
What truly sets House of Dawn apart, however, is the service — without question, the best in the city. Shin delivered an exceptional level of care that elevated the entire evening. His genuine Japanese hospitality made us feel not just served, but sincerely welcomed and valued. He was attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu, and thoughtful in every interaction. His warmth, professionalism, and precision reflect the highest standards.
It’s rare to find a restaurant where both the food and service are equally outstanding, but House of Dawn achieves exactly that. If you’re looking for an unforgettable steakhouse experience in Richmond, this is the place.
Highly recommended, considering I don’t write reviews often. We will absolutely be returning.
Ask for Shin.
40 Days Ribeye: Perfectly cooked, crispy outside and tender inside. A must-try!
Pumpkin Risotto: Loved the subtle sweetness; really comforting and well-made.
Bison Carpaccio: A great starter, full of flavor.
On top of the amazing food, the service was absolutely 10/10—thank you to our waiter Yunsu for the excellent hospitality! Highly recommend this place.
I went here for my cousin’s birthday and we were quite a large group. The venue was very large and we were allocated in a special room.
The problem with this restaurant wasn’t the service, it was the food. It was inconsistent. Considering the fact that the bread tasted better than some of the dishes we’d ordered, that says a lot about the quality. Their beef is good but their duck was severely undercooked. You don’t know what you will be getting with this restaurant, it’s a gamble. Sometimes it’s good. Other times, it won’t be the best.
As a collective group, we thought it would be best to rate this place at the middle of the road with hopes that they can improve their consistency with their meals.
