House of Chen — A Lifelong Favorite
I’ve been going to House of Chen for as long as I can remember! I loved it back when it was in the mall, and even though it’s moved, I still make a point to come back every year — the food is always fresh and delicious.

The atmosphere isn’t quite what it used to be, and they seem a bit short-staffed lately, but the food still comes out hot and in a reasonable time. Their hot and sour soup is my absolute favorite , and the chicken and vegetables were perfectly cooked — tender, not rubbery — and they even left out the mushrooms for me. The egg rolls are still amazing!

I look forward to eating here every time I’m in town, even if I’m a little sad about the new shorter hours. I’d eat here every day if I could!

My wife and I ordered out from here last night. When I went in to pick it up, the place actually looked kinda nice, but the dining and room areas felt awkward.

We got the Lemon Chicken, Fried Rice, Wontons, and Sweet & Sour Chicken. The food was honestly just okay. The lemon chicken went down fine at first, but the rice tasted off, kinda chemical, like way too much oil or something, just no flavor. The wontons and sweet & sour sauce were super generic too, nothing special at all.

I was actually excited to try this place since it’s a local Chinese and Laotian spot, but this experience ruined it completely. I woke up this morning absolutely sick out of my mind. I threw up, couldn’t move around, and I know it was the lemon chicken because that’s the only thing I ate that my wife didn’t. She’s perfectly fine.

Completely wasted my money and now I feel awful. Will not be recommending this place to anyone.

This has been our favorite restaurant for Chinese food for years. The staff is very friendly. We usually order take-out and our order is ready within 20 minutes. Highly recommend this small business!

I ordered curry chicken and it was anything but curry chicken. It tasted like it had alot of soy sauce in it. I couldn’t even eat 1/4 of it. It had potatoes in it. Instead of water chestnuts. I wont be going back again.

Quick service, we had a mistake with our food order but it was corrected. Prices are worth the food quality and quantity.

Called yesterday with an order over $100 for my family of 6. Super courteous and friendly, and they were not upset about the big order! Everything was so good, we all loved it! I could tell they made each dish carefully and the order was done pretty quick. Might be our new go to place!

I wish they would move back to their mall location this location seems to be so small sometimes we don’t even stop because the wait time and the waiting area is absolutely tiny. However the food is fresh always has a good taste prices are very reasonable.

This is a great little restaurant in an offbeat location. The service was great. A good value. We had pineapple pork and orange chicken.

Have you ever walked into a restaurant and felt like you are interrupting someone’s day? That’s what we felt like as the only people there to dine. Food was nothing to brag about and don’t waste your time with the egg rolls. They are spring rolls. The lemon chicken would have been ok if it had chicken. It was more dough than anything. We drug our feet on trying this place because of bad experiences of close friends, they wouldn’t recommend this place but we had to try it for ourselves. Service was ok and the food was served in a timely manner. Now for the atmosphere. The music from the business next door drowns out the music from the restaurant. Wasn’t good listening music either, sounded like someone learning to play a base drum. Was told by staff this happens 3 to 4 nights weekly. We tried it and will keep looking for better restaurant’s with Chinese food in the Ames area.
