First time visiting. What a gem for the locals. I was very impressed with all the food and the spotless pub. The chicken dumpling soup was the best my wife and I have ever had! The Reuben sandwich was awesome. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Wish we lived closer than 2 hours away. Even so, we will be back.

This is a message to your manager.
I’ve worked in the service industry for over 15 years and to sit and listen to my mom calling in to voice her dissatisfaction in the quality, quantity and pricing of your product— only to be met with you cutting her off mid sentence.. acting defensive and argumentative. And essentially blowing her off .. was some of the most unprofessional “managing” I’ve witnessed. No offer to make it right or remedy the issue. What incentive to EVER return or ever recommend you to others?
The food was bland and Overpriced. $70 for 3 cod dinners to go?? Only two pieces of cod in the entree dinner?! 15 Frozen French fries, frozen green beans, saturated Cole slaw, and a dry dinner roll= 20$? . A far cry from the quality of their meals in the past.

The chicken dumpling soup is very good. Can tell its homemade. The burger and chicken sandwiches were a hit with us. Friendly staff.

The Pepsi was watered down and the food was less than satisfactory. The fish was burnt on one side and the French fries were awful, with absolutely no taste. The ketchup bottle was empty and the food took an excessive amount of time. A special shouldn’t take 45 minutes to prepare and delivered to the table. I had thr Ruben.The worst I have ever had. Corn beef was stringy and dry and the rye bread was hard and hard to chew. There was very little Thousand Island dressing and the saurkraut had no flavor. What a complete waste for an extonishing $80.00 bill. What an awful dining experience. My family and I will never frequent this overpriced unsatisfying eatery again!

We recently celebrated a birthday party here. It was a great choice. The salad bar was very nice and the food was delicious. The owner also took time to come around to talk with us to make sure things were going well. He thanked us for choosing to come to the restaurant. The waitress was also wonderful.

I went to lunch with my husband and mother yesterday. My burger was still very pink in the center. The bottom bun was so soggy from the grease and dripped grease all over when I took a bite. I ended up using about 4 napkins to soak up the grease after two bites. I ended up taking it off the bun and eating the burger with a fork.
My mom had the chicken dumpling soup. She said it was good, but the dumplings were way too big and too many. She was given the option of getting her own soup from the salad bar, or having the waitress bring it. She said the waitress to bring it. When she told the waitress that there were too many dumplings, she was told “That’s why I prefer people to get their own soup.”
We will more than likely not be returning.

It’s a great place to get a good meal, great service, and good, cold beer. Really enjoyed my first visit with my Mom and Brother so much that we went back again the next day. Linda was a hoot and took great care of us. Food was awesome, especially the fried cheese curds. Hillsboro Craft Beers on tap were cold and tasty. Really enjoyed my visits and will definitely go back the next time I am in town.

The food is good but the service is so so bad. I’ve never seen such terrible waitresses/bartenders. People waiting for a carry out, yet only one girl can do the carry out register while running back and getting food? While two other bartenders stand there talking to their boyfriend sitting at the bar and screaming where’s the boss, I wanna get cut and go home? I waited a generous 10 mins before I was even acknowledged by staff. Bad ownership.

Houghton’s has great food, great drinks, and very attentive, friendly employees! Great place to relax and enjoy! They have the BEST chicken dumpling soup! (Never had anything there that wasn’t good!)

Definitely meant to be more of a bar than a pub + restaurant. The food was cheap and greasy, the server only had enough patience for the regular bar-goers, and was rude to the college employee who took over her shift when we got there. If you’re looking for a quick and convenient drinking spot near the Viterbo University, then it’s not a bad option. I wouldn’t recommend anything food wise unless it’s late at night and you’re looking for something to go along with a couple of drinks
