Hou Jia Kitchen & Bar

“Hou jia” translates to “drink and taste ” — a phrase often heard while immersing in the rich culinary heritage of Taiwan , especially in its vibrant night markets known for small bites and diverse flavors. I wanted to recreate that lively, bustling atmosphere — a space where students and community members can come together and enjoy a menu inspired by the flavors of Taiwanese street food scene. Through this experience, I hope to spark cultural exchange and connection, using food as a way to celebrate and share the heart of my heritage.

I love everything about this place! I ordered Taiwanese beef noodles and it tastes authentic just you landed in Taiwan.
The atmosphere is amazing having a hot warm noodle soup with the view of snow ❄️
Inside is so so clean. Ive read a review that said here’s dirty I can say that IT IS NOT AT ALL! It’s super clean.
Highly recommended and I’ll be back here for sure.

Excellent food, reasonable price, generous portions. Great atmosphere in the center of WMU campus, serving beer and wine. 3rd location of established local restaurant owner (Hunan Garden). You won’t be disappointed.

I lived in China when I was a kid and visited Taiwan several times. It’s hard to find this kind of flavor in the U.S., so I decided to try it when I saw they had beef noodle soup here and it turned out to be surprisingly good!

A must place to check out. Portions are huge, price is very reasonable. Great ownership and management team in place. The decor is very attractive, it has an industrial nightclub vibe to it.

Would not expect to find a quality Taiwanese place inside a student center. When first arrived felt a bit off put by outside seeing it was a student center. Luckily we walked in and found a nice clean environment for our small group.

Food was ridiculously amazing. Taiwanese beef noodle soup though bit pricey is due to the fact it was soooo well made. Like I was back in Taiwan with tender beef, well cooked noodles, and soup that was soooo flavorful. The popcorn chicken was fried well without being too oily and came with so much Thai basil. The bubble tea was amazing and for those that enjoyed they had sake and other alcohol. Came here due to it being close and convenient. But was glad we did

I came here with my dad and his friend and had an absolutely delicious meal. The food was so good and we had a wonderful conversation with the owner. The location is up on Western’s Campus so I really hope people in town make the trip up to support this place. I had the Ah Gong Lu Rou Mian and it was amazing. The cabbage in it was exceptional.
