Historic tavern in Tremont, once a speakeasy! Come for the shuffleboard and cheap drinks Great atmosphere, comfy seating and stories for days!

Omg… I can’t say enough great things about Ms Sheila the owner, 100 years of Cleveland history bar history and baseball history all rolled into one! Great beer and drink selection… These bar stools are the original bar stools that Babe Ruth and many others sat in! If you want to feel Cleveland for what it truly is and go to an actual “neighborhood bar” (this place sits literally on the corner in the neighborhood) then this is a must see, even if you don’t get a beer (which you should)… Just walking into this place will take you back in time!

ZERO STARS—THE MOST HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD!!My friends and I decided to go to this bar for some quick drinks.. when I say i walked in and everyone was staring at me HARD! I ignored it and continued my conversation, out of nowhere the entire bar( minus my friends and I) started singing this racist song! Not only that they all had flags waving around! as an African American I have never in my life felt so uncomfortable it was like they played that song because I was there! In 2025 there is no way this should be happening! I don’t recommend ANYONE go to this bar! especially Black people!!! I’m so disappointed that we still have ignorant people around! Tremont will never see a dollar of my money EVER AGAIN! This place should be shut down, no one should be treated like that! Stay away from here!

I’m sorry that you felt targeted however we have many nationalities in our bar, it has nothing to do with race it’s about being patriotic

I WAS BORN HERE IN AMERICA DUH!!! And that’s DEFINITELY NOT what was going on! Just fyi you should make ALL your guest feel welcome because guess what ALL MONEY SPENDS THE SAME! SMH shame on this place

Come for a beer and shot but stay for the stories – if you’re lucky enough to have a quiet afternoon when Shelia, her daughter, or her sister are behind the bar. You just might learn something about the colorful history of one of the last neighborhood joints in Tremont!

Hotz is as real as it gets!! And you’re getting served a shot and a beer from descendants of the same family that opened the bar and served shots and beers to Babe Ruth. Not much more Cleveland than this corner bar.

Recently visited the Hotz Cafe on a Blue Jays road trip with some friends. Sheila, the great granddaughter of the original owner, was extremely kind enough to open up for us a few hours early. I don’t have enough kind words to say about Sheila, the rest of the staff and other regulars that frequent this bar. This is a wonderful place with lots of history and a shuffleboard table from the 1940s!

Thank you Sheila for the hospitality, cheap drinks, and overall fantastic time. Next time I am in Cleveland I will absolutely be back!
