Reviews
I had the cheeseburger combo (includes fries and a can soda) and a 9-piece wings (honey mustard).
The wings were tasty and about average sized. A tad pricey but not exorbitant. I would probably get these again and try different flavors.
The burger was just ok. I will say it was quite large, probably somewhere between 1/2 and 2/3 pound. Unfortunately the patty was a bit dry and overcooked. I think a couple minutes less time on the grill would help a lot. The fries were on point though and very well seasoned.
I’ll most likely return to try other items.
First Impressions & Service
The restaurant is conveniently located with a clean, easy-to-find exterior and plenty of parking. Inside, the waiting area is small and fills up fast, so when you’re picking up your to-go order, it’s a good idea to wait in your car after you get your buzzer. Both the young woman who took my phone order and the one who was front-of-house when I arrived are fantastic! (Though I think I spoke to two ladies, I may be wrong, maybe it was the same one?) While I was there there was only one woman who was impressively efficient. She was juggling taking orders from a constantly ringing phone and taking orders from the steady stream of people at the counter–all by herself. Though she was working the order window, pick up window, and phones alone, she was didn’t miss a beat. She was polite, professional, and handled the chaos with ease.
The only real hiccup was the wait time. When I called in my order, I was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. It ended up being more than 45 minutes from the time I placed the call until I finally walked out the door with my food. It’s a busy place, and I get that, but a more accurate time estimate would have been much appreciated and helped me manage my expectations.
The Food
We ordered a variety of items to sample since it was our first time ordering here; including:
*Chicken n waffles w/ homestyle chicken wings & a plain waffle-with powdered sugar only
*Fish n chicken meal which included:
– honey hot wings
– french fries
– Sprite
*9 piece Lemon pepper (dry) wings w/ potato wedges
*Chicken n waffles w/ chicken strips and a waffle with Strawberry & powdered sugar
(We also wanted chili cheese nachos and cheese fries, but they were unfortunately out of cheese and chili.)
The total was $63.11 for the 3 of us (there is a charge for using a credit or debit card), so the carry-out order averaged $21.04 per person.
While everything was served piping hot and freshly prepared with perfectly crispy chicken, the flavors just didn’t hit the mark for us.They were well sauced and seasoned (they don’t skimp on the flavor here!) Our personal preference was just that we did not care for the taste of the wings, fish, and chicken strips and we won’t order those items again. The lemon was very prominent on the lemon pepper wings and made my mouth pucker. While I liked the honey heat ok, the member of our group who ordered it thought the heat was barely there and underwhelming (she described it as tasting like honey with a dash of hot sauce). The fries and potato wedges were just okay; they needed a little something extra, like the chili and cheese they were out of.
The star of the entire meal was the waffle! It was absolutely delicious. The color and texture were perfect and it was large enough to share. It was a definite win for my 10-year-old! We didn’t even remember to ask for butter and syrup, but the amazing lady working the order/pick up windows made sure to put plenty in our bag. Our only complaint was the lack of strawberries; we received the equivalent of one large sliced strawberry (or two small ones)—we’ll be sure to ask for extra next time.
Final Take
Despite a few misses, Hotlanta Wings is clearly doing a lot right. The staff is top-notch, and the food is made with care and served fresh. While my family didn’t love the flavors of the fish or wings we selected (honey hot, homestyle, and lemon pepper-dry), we’re willing to give it another try.
On our next visit, we’ll try different chicken flavors like the Caribbean Jerk and Kicken Ranch. We plan to also try their sandwiches and onion rings, and of course, see if we can finally get our hands on those chili cheese nachos. They must be a fan favorite if they sold out!
