Hot Texas Grills is dedicated to giving you the very best of Texas barbecue, with a focus on tasty menu items made with quality ingredients offered at a reasonable value. Founded in 2020, Hot Texas Grills has come a long way from our beginnings cooking in barbecue competitions around the state. Over the years our passion for cooking and making people happy by serving up great food inspired us to make the leap when the opportunity presented itself to open a food truck (okay, it’s a trailer). Now we serve customers at the Moontower Saloon in South Austin, and we are thrilled to be a part of the food truck industry in our local community. We hope you enjoy our food as much as we enjoy preparing it for you!

Reviews
Food wasn’t bad but probably could’ve been more enjoyable without the rude single employee, the pick up at the window was met with plastic utensils thrown beside our food and a window slam. We were the only ones eating there. We screwed up by not looking at the reviews just to see this is a comment thing that happens here. What’s worse is that a Bar employee came all the way to the back where we were just to see if we needed anything and he was very hospitable in every way, when I mentioned our experience, his face said it all.
Definitely will let my friends know to check out that bar but don’t order food from that particular food truck
While at Moontower Saloon I ordered food at Hot Texas Grills. I got the Buffalo Chicken Quesadilla. It was grilled chicken with melted monterey jack cheese, buffalo sauce and jalapeños with a side of ranch.
The quesadilla what pretty huge and cut up in four slices. I was a bit messy to eat but tasted really good. The chicken had a nice flavor grilled on a pit and the jalapeños gave it some heat. A side of ranch sauce was included. It was a heavy meal filling me up for the day. Reminder napkins required where juices will fall out and perfect to pair it with a beer.
The food was disappointing. My son said his Texas Melt was good. However, we split my cheeseburger and both felt let down. The bun was beautifully toasted. And the goodness ended there.
The beef patty was pre-pressed and frozen (and my burger was rare with a well done crust). It was flat, dense, and not delicious (bulk restaurant supply warehouse quality). With processed American cheese. For a $14 food truck burger, this should have been amazing. I would have loved a juicy 1/3 pound brisket burger with a thick slice of melted cheddar, topped with grilled onions… they got it right with the bun. They just didn’t even try after that.
The potato salad was good, but I would agree with another reviewer that the banana pudding is not homemade. Definitely a powder/milk mix. It was only $3, so I wasn’t totally upset by it.
I would love to see ownership re-look at their ingredients. With such a limited menu, ingredients should be awesome at these price points. With a captive (and hungry) audience in this beautiful environment, this truck should be giving out a much different vibe.
As far as service, I wouldn’t say the staff was “rude”; but maybe disinterested… I won’t eat here again.
The food is fine. But just fine. Nothing special.
But the service from the guy today was plain rude and ugly. I asked for a BLT and he quickly grunted ‘I’m not doing the brunch menu today. I haven’t even prepping the potatoes and I’m juggling too many things’
… My guy… we were the only person ordering at the time and it’s 1pm. You JUST opened at Noon.
So I ordered a BACON burger. WHICH IS JUST A HARDER BLT!! So unnecessarily rude. He seems to need to get out of the business completely.
I get not being in the best of moods but being rude in so many ways (that I’m not including here) and just put off by your basic job in the slowest possible moment?
The food is not good enough to deal with another angry for no reason guy in the world. And it sure seems like it’s not a one off when reading other reviews.
It’s unfortunate that this place is a part of a good bar because it makes me want to choose any of the others outdoor bars right next door.
Perhaps that was why there was so few people at Moontower and Armadillo Deb had a full parking lot.
