Excellent food and fun service! In town for just the weekend and I had to eat here twice to try as many of dishes I could. The manchego toast is magical! Fish chowder- had no idea how yummy that can be! Pompano, beef stroganoff, chicken adobo…. More please! Then there’s the desserts…WOW! Ginger carrot cake with candied carrots, dulce de leche custard, and choco-coconut-strawberry glaze rice pudding!!! Can’t wait to come back to NOLA for this place!

We had 2 dishes; Beef Stroganoff and Grilled Pompano and Dessert was the Ginger Cake Cake.

Beef Stroganoff:
Imagine tender strips of beef, seared until just browned, then simmered in a velvety sauce made from sautéed onions, earthy mushrooms, rich beef stock, and a generous swirl of sour cream. The sauce is silky, slightly tangy, and deeply savory—each bite feels like a cozy hug. Served over a bed of buttered egg noodles (or sometimes rice or mashed potatoes), the dish becomes the perfect balance of textures: the soft noodles soaking up that luscious sauce and the beef adding hearty, satisfying depth. The flavors are familiar yet refined—creamy, savory, and just a little bit indulgent. It’s the kind of dish that fills the room with an inviting aroma and makes you want to sit down, exhale, and enjoy something truly comforting.

Grilled Pompano:
If you’re in the mood for something both light and deeply satisfying, the grilled Pompano with cumin and coriander spice is a must-try. This dish strikes a perfect balance between the delicate sweetness of the pompano and the bold, aromatic kick of the spice rub. The fish is grilled to perfection: slightly smoky on the outside with a tender, juicy interior that practically melts in your mouth. It’s simple, yet sophisticated—a celebration of fresh ingredients and bold, but balanced, flavors. Whether you’re a seafood lover or just looking for something new and exciting, this dish won’t disappoint. A refreshing and light option that still delivers on taste and depth. Highly recommended.

Ginger Carrot Cake: This was a beautiful marriage of warm spices and earthy sweetness. Each bite offers a perfect balance of moist, tender crumb and fragrant ginger warmth, complemented by the natural sweetness of carrots. It’s comforting, flavorful, and irresistibly satisfying—an instant favorite for anyone who loves spice-forward desserts.

P.S. Ask the Chef for the story about how the Beef Stroganoff got on menu! I love how he honors his mom.

Highly recommend Hot & Soul on Banks Street in New Orleans! Every bite of our meal was moan-worthy and the service delightful. Casual, unpretentious atmosphere in an oulde “shotgun” house. We are counting the days until we can return to this hidden gem of a restaurant in a city of known for superior restaurants.

Amazing food and incredible atmosphere. It’s cozy but not cramped. Mike and Christy are so warm to chat with and their food is unforgettable. Their menu is exciting and delicious, don’t be shy about trying something new there because it’s going to be incredible. And if you aren’t sure, just ask. They are brilliant chefs. 10/10 food 10/10 atmosphere 10/10 people. Make time for Hot & Soul. You won’t regret it.

When I first heard saw the sinage of Hot & Soul I assumed it would be a soul food restaurant. The menu is all over the place. There’s American cuisine, filipino, along with Indian dishes. I went for happy hour. I had a the daily cocktail which was a Cuba libre daiquiri and saag paneer. Saag Paneer is creamed spinach topped with paneer (India cheese). The paneer looked like miniature, grilled toast. I didnt care for it. Overall the spinach was really tasty. It had a nice crunch to it with the onions. The staff was friendly. The bartender was so nice to have shot o’clock. I wasn’t expecting it. But that made my Friday even better!!! I’m looking forward to trying an entry on my next visit.

I saw this place mentioned in an article this past week and couldn’t wait to try it. We were seated immediately and it didn’t take long to have plates placed in front of us as the service was exemplary. The menu is small but eclectic with dishes from every cuisine. In addition, there are a few vegetarian/vegan options. The portions are large as we left completely satisfied and stuffed although the prices are a bit high
However, it was worth it considering the quality of the food and service. The chicken adobo was amazing as was the curry. We loved it!

A few weeks ago, my husband and I had the pleasure of visiting Hot & Soul in New Orleans, and we’re still talking about it. Some places are good in the moment — but this one stays with you. We already can’t wait to go back.

We stopped in during their Happy Hour, and everything we tried was absolutely amazing. The marinated olives were perfectly seasoned and so flavorful. The patatas bravas were crispy and completely addictive. And the Galician slaw was fresh, bright – it was my fav, I even tried to cook it at home. Every bite felt thoughtful and delicious.

We also enjoyed the drink specials. Great prices!!

The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the service was great, and the whole vibe made us want to linger. Even weeks later, we still remember the flavors and the feeling of being there — which says everything.

Hot & Soul is truly a gem in New Orleans, and we’re already planning our next visit. Highly recommend!

Incredibly impressed by this spot. The shotgun house gives it a cozy, welcoming vibe and the owners and staff further add to it with their infinite hospitality. To say the food is delicious is an understatement and a disservice to the remarkable quality they provide. Thanks to Mike and Christy for their talent and kindness!

My go-to place for the BEST fish chowder ever — red, spicy, & delicious! And they’re open for lunch. Stop by on your next trip to Trader Joe’s, they’ll give you a discount with TJ receipt 🙂

Well seasoned meat-and-3 soul food spot. Plenty of delicious options to choose from. Friendly and quick service. I prefer elbow mac but the shells were fine, the fried catfish, smoked wings, and collard greens were the standouts this visit
