We had a great time at Hot Rock Steakhouse! We highly recommend the steak fillet as well as the lamb chops! The meat was so tender. Sonny is very welcoming and friendly. Just been back to hot rocks now that they’ve reopened in Southsea! Wowwwww! Staff are so friendly and welcoming. The mocktails are amazing. We had the Beijing Passion mocktail and the Apple and Kiwi mocktail after recommendation and their backstories from the owner. Food was fantastic! We had the sirloin steak

Just had an amazing meal at the new Hot Rock Southsea I’ve waited a long time to try Sonny’s meals again, I first meet Sonny at Port Solent where he had his restaurant (hot rock) this I always called my Happy place before I meet Sonny I would only ever order chicken or Gammon when I eat out as I didn’t like steak but once I tried Sonny’s steak there was no going back it was amazing and a lovely experience. Tonight I felt like I was in heaven the taste is unreal I’m so glad he’s opened another Hot Rock the meats are on display so you can see everything before you order the food is unreal Sonny is the loveliest person makes you feel so welcome and his staff is also amazing very friendly and can’t do enough for you Thank you so much Syed Sonny Ahmed for another wonderful meal Some pictures of tonight the first 3 are from the old Hot Rock in 2017.

Being huge steak lovers, my partner and I booked a table at Hot Rock SteakHouse for Valentine’s Day, excited but not entirely sure what to expect. As one of Southsea’s newest additions to dining out, we went in with high hopes. Within minutes of arriving at Hot Rock SteakHouse, we were warmly greeted by the staff and shown to our table. From that point on, it was clear our expectations were about to be completely exceeded.
The menu itself, offered an impressive selection of steak cuts, varying in size and price, making it difficult to choose. I decided on the Porterhouse while my partner opted for the T-bone. It wasn’t long before our steaks arrived and when they did, they quite literally turned heads. You could feel the curiosity from nearby tables as the hot stones were placed down in front of us. Each steak was served with a beautifully dressed salad and a portion of chips that were, without exaggeration, some of the best we’ve had.
A special mention has to go to the owner, Sonny. From the moment we met him, it was obvious how much pride and passion he has for what he does. He came over to our table, took the time to explain the story behind the steaks, and showed us the best way to cook to our liking and enjoy them properly. Thanks to Sonny, I will always remember “put the garlic butter on the stone and not directly on the steak” and to “cook each piece through the butter in small cuts”. That simple tip completely elevated the experience for us.
Towards the end of the evening, we were also treated to an incredible cheesecake. This cheesecake was kindly given to us on the house and was beautifully decorated by Ray, who, as well as all the other staff, went above and beyond to make our evening feel special.
Hot Rock SteakHouse truly exceeded all expectations. The food, the atmosphere, and the genuine care from the team made this a Valentine’s Day to remember. I would highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates a proper steak experience. You will honestly not be disappointed.
Safe to say, I think we have just found our new favourite steak house in Hampshire! We will be back!

Cooking your own steak on a lava hot rock to your personal taste is a brilliant idea. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and the food was excellent quality. In fact, I believe the restaurant could charge more given the standard of the ingredients and presentation.
One member of our party, who has previously visited Japan, chose the Wagyu fillet and said it matched the taste and quality of the Wagyu he experienced in Tokyo.
As the restaurant has only been open a few weeks, there are still a few areas to refine — particularly around overbooking, waiting times, and communication between staff. However, these feel like early teething issues and did not take away from what was otherwise a fantastic evening.
We would definitely return.
