Reviews
I’m now a semi‑regular here, finding myself coming back 5–6 times a year — and for good reason.
First: The broth is clearly made from scratch. In my medium‑spicy mushroom broth, you can actually see the ginger, Sichuan peppercorns, and whole mushrooms. The flavor is full umami, and you can customize it even further with their extensive topping bar. My go‑to combo: chili peppers, green onions, garlic, chili oil, spicy powder, and sriracha .
Second: The food comes out fast. The iPad ordering system is aggressively efficient, and the staff is consistently kind and attentive. They check in often and top off your broth without you even having to ask.
Third: They offer unique and genuinely delicious options. All of their pancakes are incredible, but the true standout for me is the brown sugar rice cakes — sweet, sticky, lightly crisped… absolutely addictive.
Fourth: The drinks are fun. It’s one of the only local spots I’ve seen with a wide selection of high‑quality soju options.
10/10 — I recommend this place every time.
Note: I’m a strict vegetarian and have never had issues finding options here. However, they recently reduced their tofu selection (no more fried tofu or tofu skins), but there’s still plenty to choose from. I recommend the frozen tofu, and for a little extra, the bean curd rolls.
The only downside is that the seating area feels a bit tight and not very comfortable . The price is a little on the higher side , but the quality definitely makes it worth it ✅.
They first offer you either all you can eat or a la carte. We chose to put it all together ourselves and saved a little bit off the all u can eat, so really you could go either way with it. We went a little overboard but only took home one medium container of food.
The house broth is phenomenal. There’s a reason it’s their house. The spicy is def kicking and the tom yum is mad flavorful.
If you are running low on broth they will bring you more to top you up so don’t be afraid of drinking that soup yum yum.
I highly recommend sorting out what will be your raw tongs vs clean. One of our group used the back end of chopsticks for raw as a workaround too. Just know you have to balance it.
I can’t wait to go back! So good!
It’s AYCE hotpot. There’s a tablet at each table to order from. They have a lot of soup bases to choose from, but no pork/beef bone broth. We opted for the Super Spicy and Herbal soup bases. The Herbal base was a good substitute for pork bone broth and reminded me almost of a chicken broth, without the chicken of course.
The menu is not as extensive as other AYCE hotpot restaurants. For example, they didn’t have the bean curd sticks, which is available at most hotpot restaurants. Regardless, they have most hotpot items that are loved and we found ourselves full and satisfied! A lot of aspects are self serve (plates, utensils, etc), but service to get your food is super quick. Apparently they also offer Japanese A5 Wagyu but it was not listed on the tablet and we forgot to ask the waitress about it.
Overall, Hot Pot Hero in Ellicott City was a great restaurant to stop in for lunch. Food was good and service was quick. I would recommend giving it a try if you’re in the area!
