I grew up in the Trumbull County area and used to go here and to JibJab in Girard. I guess new owners took over both, raised prices and bottomed out the overall quality. If you grew up there and have good memories of the place, just bypass it overall. It’s gross and severely overpriced.
Look at the photo. The bun is so old and stale that it is cracking and flaking. The onions are discolored and foul. The sauce was probably a week old, burnt and tasted like it was cut with BBQ sauce. (2) hot dogs, small fry and small drink = $9. But it gets better. If you pay with a card, they don’t just pass the 3% surcharge on to you from the credit card companies, they tack on another 3%. So you will be paying 6% in service fees. 3% to cover their cost to the CC companies and pocketing an additional 3% of your money. Nice, right?

Nothing else reminds me of my grandparents more than this place. I used to come here all the time when visiting as a child. I hadn’t been in 4 or 5 years since my grandparents had passed.
I was a little worried when I read some reviews saying that the chili sauce tasted different, but I was in town and decided to stop in anyway. I have no regrets.
Same soft buns, warm chili, and classic cheese sauce. Granted, I probably don’t have the same taste that the locals have for it, but to me, it tastes exactly the same way it did 20 years ago. I was hit with instant nostalgia and it made me emotional just eating a hot dog – lol . I ordered my usual chili and cheese dogs with chili cheese fries and a milkshake on the side. Just like the good old days.
Even if you don’t have an emotional connection with the place, it’s still great. Prices are great, the flavor is there, and the sit-down diner style vibe is perfect for what it is. They live up to their name – it’s simple, it’s warm, it’s hearty – it’s the Hot Dog Shoppe.

Stopped in at the hotdog shop that I heard a lot about and Warren, Ohio. Let’s just say I see why they have the name they have and how they’ve been open for so long just quality food. Good hotdog good cheese good chili , recommended

My family made a trip out to Warren and we needed a quick place to eat. I looked up the Hot Dog Shoppe so we stopped in. It was like taking a step back in time. Loved the retro layout! The waitress was so friendly and the food came out quick and hot. The hot dogs were great and the fries were fresh and hot. Overall great service and food for a quick lunch. Looking forward to another visit. (I wish you guys sold hats!)

It’s been awhile since visiting the Hot Dog Shoppe. I was happy to see they have the option of all beef hotdogs and are much better and bigger than the other ones. Fries are always good and I like to put sauce and cheese on them. Friendly staff and courteous. I did a take out and I only waited 5 minutes after I ordered. My only complaint would be the cost. I’ve gone here for over the last 45 years, so I know how cheap it used to be. Lol

I blew my diet for hot dogs with chili, chili fries and a Cho shake. So disappointed. The chili sauce is really thick and nowhere near as good as it used to be! 3 stars at best. Shake a 5. What happened?? Eventually I’ll crave the old style and will try it again. If not better, my family will not longer eat here . Possibly end of an era .

Went today for lunch at The Hot Dog Shoppe In Warren, Ohio. Their food is always great. Had two cheese dogs with mustard and a chili cheese dog. Had a regular fry and their fantastic chocolate Shakes. A fantastic lunch. Their hot dogs and cheese and chili sauces are tasty. Their fries are the best. Great with any sauce they have including vinegar. Their chocolate shakes are tasty and complement the food well. Service was fantastic, done very quick. Server was very attentive and wonderfully nice. Would go back there again. A great place to have a great lunch or dinner. Their chili is great. They also serve burgers, chicken tendors and an italian sausage sandwich. A great establishment that has been a Warren Ohio staple for decades.

Friendly, fast and delicious! I really enjoyed the diner vibe. The staff was very friendly. My order was ready in under a minute. The house chili sauce is rich and just a little salty, but in a good way. Steamed buns are soft.
