I was often asked about my recommended sushi restaurants in Vancouver, and I would recommend HOSHI-san and another restaurant in Burnaby. There are other fancy restaurants in Vancouver, but they were a little too expensive, so I didn’t go there very often myself. Eating out in Vancouver is expensive to begin with, but sushi was even more expensive. I always ordered HOSHI-san’s omakase (assorted) set. Their local sushi was delicious along with the ones from Japan, and my top recommendation is Vancouver’s spot prawns (the season I believe is in early spring). They used to serve it as sushi and then the head as tempura.

If you’re craving Japanese sushi, this is the place to go. While I was eating my nigiri sushi with chopsticks, the Caucasian customer sitting next to me was eating every single piece with his hands. Even among locals, this seems like a sushi bar for connoisseurs! If you want the omakase course, you need to make a reservation at least 24 hours in advance. Everything on the menu is delicious, so you won’t regret it. The sushi bar is located on the floor of a large Western restaurant, so even if you’re dining with someone who doesn’t like Japanese food, you can enjoy other dishes like pizza and pasta. Everything was delicious, but I was personally impressed by the avocado tempura. There’s a piano player on the floor, and the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere.
