Had an amazing anniversary dinner at Harris Ranch Horse Lounge. The server was top-tier, attentive, funny, and knew just when to show up (or disappear). The steak bite appetizer? So good it should come with a safe word . Drinks from the bar were strong enough to make me flirt with my own wife , and the desserts? Pure sinful bliss. If you walk out of there without trying one, you’re doing life wrong . Loosen your belt, cancel your calorie tracker, and go all in. You deserve it.

I stopped here the other day on my way home from Sacramento. Earlier in the week I had dined at their Express BBQ, which was fantastic and had me eager for more.
I had time, so I decided to eat at the ranch’s sit down dining. I looked at the Country Kitchen and the Steak House as well, but decided on the Horseshoe Lounge as it had the most atmosphere and unique ambiance of the three, plus they serve the entire menu of the Country Kitchen and being a bar only adults are allowed in. I loved all of the decorations and even the chairs had unique upholstery.
I had no idea about the ranch’s history with horse racing or even that it was ranked as the #3 restaurant in California and the #29th best independent restaurant in the Country! After dinner, I knew why it has that ranking. The food was outstanding.
I had the Harris Fresh Salad and the Tri-Tip Sandwich (well done). I almost passed on the Fresh Salad because of the name, out here those are typically unremarkable house salads… boy what a mistake that would have been! The salad was fantastic and I’ve never thought of putting pistachios in there! It would have been sad to have gone for a Caesar salad and missed this.
The sandwich was delicious and the fries were crispy and hit the spot, especially after driving for three hours and having a pretty stressful long day of meetings.
I only wish I had had time to enjoy their Whiskey Smoked Ribeye, that just sounds like heaven on a plate.
I highly recommend this place if you have the time on your travels on the 5.

This place has really gone downhill. We spot here every time we drive to LA from the Bay Area. Used to be a great meal but were very disappointed this visit.
They must be under new management or new head chef. Our server mentioned they changed the menu a few months ago, which got rid of a number of items including the portabella burger which was one of our favorites and a great choice that wasn’t so heavy. But hey, menus change.
My burger which was supposed to be medium was charred on the outside and medium rare on the inside and not juicy/bloody at all. It was also just warm, not hot off the grill. We asked for no bun and got lettuce wrapped burgers, not what we wanted. The sweet potato fries were room temperature, and I heard the adjacent table complain about their fries as well so this appears to be a general problem. We were in a hurry to get back home or I would have sent the food back for a total redo. The best part of my meal was the pickle.
The fruit bowl my wife ordered was quite generous and our server Danny was very kind and understanding.
Since this is the one nice place to stop along I-5, we’ll likely come back to Harris Ranch but try their other restaurant in hopes the kitchen is better staffed.

We waited 10 minutes for a table BUT could see into the place and there were tables with no one seated. The two ladies at the front desk finally sat us at a newly cleaned table. People still waiting with open tables available, maybe get rid of one table f the ladies so they didn’t just chat to each other but too care of the customers. They may know all about beef but not about service! Time of arrival 1:15pm. The worth Blood Orange Margarita I have ever had at $16. The last table photo is another table where they left a lot of food, doesn’t speak well of the place.

Lunch was soooo delicious!!!! The Chuckwagon soup is a go to everytime we come here. I had the grilled flank steak with pistachio and basil pesto. Let me tell you, I can’t wait to have it again. All the flavors were robust and complimented one another perfectly. I love balsamic glaze, and the chef was generous while topping my dish. The service was wonderful and quick. Our drinks were never empty either. Overall, it was a great experience.

The food was pretty bland and basic and overpriced. I got a burger 1/2 lbs with sweet potato fries.
Let’s be honest here: this is a basic overpriced restaurant. The service is alright, but the value isn’t there. An in n out burger for $6-8 is x3 better than the burger here.
This place lacks value

We were starving after spending the whole day prospecting at the Benitoite Mining Company. The team recommended that we have dinner at the renowned Harris Ranch Resort. Our first visit to this Country Store shopping, Ranch Bakery, Steakhouse lobby bar resort was no disappointment. The Ranch Resort is conveniently located near the 5 highway between Bakersfield and Fresno, California. The dinning recommendation was absolutely fantastic. We chose the Horseshoe Lounge for dinner because we noticed all the high-quality whisky and bourbon on display at the bar. The moment we entered this lounge, it felt like we were transported to a country and western bar straight out of the 1850s. At the Horseshoe Lounge, you’ll find a fully stocked bar and a diverse steakhouse menu. In the specified sequence, we had Woodford Reserve Bourbon Kentucky Whisky, Margaritas, Traditional Spinach Salad with Parmesan Peppercorn Dressing, crumbled bacon, chopped egg, mushrooms, and Parmesan Cheese. Shepherd’s Pie featuring a delicious blend of ground beef, veggies, and garlic mashed potatoes, all topped with melted cheddar. A 14oz portion of Prime Ribeye Steak. A ribeye steak of prime grade, boasting rich flavor and abundant marbling.

As many times I stopped in Harris ranch, never stopped in the Horseshoe Lounge until this past week. The atmosphere is great especially with live music. The food is actually the same as the main restaurant as well.

Good place to watch football, excellent service. Wide selection of steaks, I believe that the food comes from the same kitchen as the steakhouse restaurant nextdoor. As a vegetarian, I literally ordered the only meatless entree in the menu – Grilled Local Vegetables. The dish was delicious but $22 felt a little steep for a plate of veggies. Loved the Almond Brown Ale. 🙂

My partner and I recently stopped at Harris Ranch while traveling through, and once again, we were pleasantly surprised by the professional and friendly service and good food. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by Amaya at the front desk, and given a realistic assessment of wait time (which ended up being very short).
We dined in the Horseshoe Lounge and enjoyed Prime New York steak, a loaded potato, and wedge salad with chicken breast. Very good food considering our options en route 🙂 Our server, Carlos, was superb and prompt, ensuring an extremely pleasant overall dining experience.
Overall, the consistent quality of service and food make Harris Ranch a must-visit every time we’re in the area.
