Horseman’s Haven – Santa Fe, New Mexico

The Horseman’s Haven has been a Santa Fe legend since debuting its high octane chile in 1981 in a smallish dining room adjacent to an old gas station.

This restaurant is low key and the food and chile is always delicious. My handheld burrito was a little messy, but I’d rather have chile and …

I love Horseman’s Haven. I’ve never had a bad experience here. Geeat food and great pricing. Good service and a clean friendly environment. Super cool bar set up too. Not sure if they serve alcohol here but its well worth the stop if you’re in the area.

It is indeed the hottest green chile I’ve had so far (kind of a low bar tbh). It doesn’t have much flavor though. Still a pretty good burger! I was actually really into the home fries, especially with the leftover green chile. Nice crispy bits.

Great place for breakfast/brunch. Local spot that is very consistent especially for the Steak and eggs that I order. Coworkers consistently mention the salsas are the hottest so if your into heat, do so. The same chefs all the time and very attentive to your cup of coffee. Great price point and HUGE PORTIONS!

It just doesn’t get any better than this for authentic, traditional New Mexican food! The flavor and heat of the chilies is incredible! Some of the silkiest red I’ve ever had. I’m a native New Mexican living in Colorado. Every time I drive back to Albuquerque, I stop at Horseman’s first!

This place is amazing and worth the wait, if there is one. They seemed pretty busy, because parking was full up front, when we arrived on a Saturday around 6 but when we went I side it wasn’t bad. They seated us right away and got us our drinks, we both got tea & lemonaid. We both got the 3D Burrito, his had ground beef and cheese (my fiance highly recommends the ground beef), and green and mine had Carne Adovada and cheese with red. They came out amazing such a good Burrito was enough for my fiance to barely finish, I had about half left over. My fiance has been eati g here since he was a kid and they survived covid, lets keep this place open!!! We are definitely coming here again as soon as we can.

Worth a stop if you are in Santa Fe. Servers were efficient and fast. Food was really good. I enjoy the red chile here. If you enjoy your food nuclear hot, than try the level II green chile.

This was such a sad dining experience. The coffee was cold, and they give you milk instead of cream or half n half. My eggs were so undone, they looked like literal snot. The bacon was burnt and had the texture of rawhide. The worst part of the meal was the potatoes (see photo). These poor potatoes were raw and burnt at the same time! They gave me a mountain of this crispy burnt mush, with raw peices. This restaurant is a sad disappointment compared to the Horsemans Haven I knew as a kid.

Family-owned and very welcoming. And with this breakfast burrito in New Mexico, it’s always “Christmas.”

This restaurant needs a remodel. It’s dumpy inside and the outside area is literally trashed. The food is warm but below average quality. The cook has a full beard and no net over it. Where are you health department. The chile is medium hot. I get hotter chile at other places. I don’t recommend eating at Horseman’s Haven until it gets a remodel and better food quality. I am not advocating changing the menu just make better tasting versions of it.

I hadn’t eaten at Horseman’s Haven for a few years but had fond memories of the place and finally made it back. For those unfamiliar this is a true “local’s only” place in a city overrun with tourists and tourist traps.

The green chile here is in a league of its own on the Scoville index: very hot, but also very flavorful. And unlike many other places you get all of the classic New Mexican side dishes, beautifully-prepared: whole pinto beans, Spanish rice and (best of all) posole (see photo of green chile enchilada plate below).

Basic diner atmosphere, servers who seem to have been there forever, loyal local clientele.
