We pulled into a packed parking lot about 6pm on a Friday evening, which was a great sign!
Food was phenomenal…it FAR exceeded our hopes and expectations (other than being cold, as if it had sat in the window for too long, but that doesn’t reflect on the cooks or the food quality).
The renovations were absolutely beautiful!
The service…ATROCIOUS. Our server “greeted” us at the door with the most lackadaisical demeanor imaginable. She sat us and I ordered a water and a beer, then (before she rang in our drinks) told her to scratch the beer and just bring water, as I wanted a dessert. She brought my husband’s tea, but not my water. I asked a second time. Never got it. I then asked THREE times to get a tea before I got it. (At this point, we’d been there 30 minutes.)
We ordered an appetizer…which never came. When I pointed it out, as she was sitting our entrees down, she was incredulous that we no longer wanted our appetizer.
I requested a side of mayo with my sandwich. Didn’t get it. I acknowledge this is a very small and easy miss, and had there not been so many other misses, it wouldn’t have bothered me at all. But this was just one more thing.
I ordered a creme brulee when our food came out because they were busy and we knew it would take a while to get it. She didn’t even know what it was. I had to pronounce it 3 different ways AND describe it. 20 minutes after we were finished eating (and only after asking another server to check on it because we hadn’t seen her since she dropped the food off) she came back to inform us that they were out of creme brulee. It doesn’t bother me at all that they were sold out (in fact, it makes me happy that they’re doing so well they are selling out of items). But it shouldn’t have taken 30+ minutes (and asking another server) to be told that it was sold out.
I asked for a box, which she actually did bring, but we had to ask for our check.
I hate that the service was so bad because everything else was great! I sincerely hope service gets better because it would be a shame for that to be the reason a REALLY good restaurant fails.
The standout of our meal was definitely the wings. They were cooked just right—crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside—and packed with flavor. Whether you like them spicy, sweet, or somewhere in between, there’s a sauce to suit your taste. The drink selection was also impressive, with a well-stocked bar and some great local options.
Service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. It’s clear the staff care about making sure everyone has a good time. The crowd was a nice mix of locals and golfers, giving the place a relaxed but lively energy.
All in all, Horse Creek Tavern is worth checking out whether you’re a golfer or not. We’ll definitely be back—and next time, we’re bringing friends. Don’t skip the wings.
Overpriced shitty food is what they serve here!
Courtney was our waitress. She was friendly and attentive.
