Tried out Horace and Dickies at there newest location today. The guy at the counter was friendly. The catfish was EXCELLENT… no complaints there. The yams, coleslaw and potato salad were very good.
What wasn’t good is the following:
1. Green beans tasted like they came from a can.
2. Shrimp wasn’t tasty at all.
3. We ordered 4 pieces of fried wings that we never received but was charged for it.
While the food was okay, I can’t say I’d recommend coming here. We definitely won’t be back. I was really hoping this location was going to be a great spot to eat at… but it wasn’t. The meal wasn’t worth the $80 we spent. I rate this location a 2.5 out of 5.

09/13/2024- My play sister and I stopped here after a funeral service around 1:00 pm. No lines. Plenty of parking. Clean place. Friendly staff. She ordered fried (batter) shrimp with a side of Tartar sauce! She said they were delicious! Okay. Yum.

I am hoping that this Horace and Dickies location will get better with time. I see that there is still work being done. It look like things are coming along. Hope to see a better portion options and deals. And yes I the fish do not have much season flavor and the sides werent hot, rather warm instead. I know that some people are able to have salt and really those who can can season their own food to their liking, but i think their should be a option for both kinds of people. The other food was seasoned nicely, which was jumbo fried shrimp, greens, macaroni and cheese, and french fries. Overall, I will return but not as often. The sizes and prices would not do for my family of 5

I order from this location today and I was livid. I order the seafood dinner that was $28.62. The fish was over cooked, the greens had no seasoning, the Mac and cheese was dried out, that mf crab ball ( the crabmeat ) was no good and the shrimps was bland as well. The place reeked of weed

A lot of people go here for nostalgia if they grew up in Washington DC. Area like myself. I love to see local Businesses thrive but I would say please do not wish your time going to the Southren ave location.. They gave me black Bert crab balls. They left out my mom’s Mac. And cheese to her catfish platter The dude that cooked our order came out to smoke and weed. They didnt lab or sperate the orders, I tiped when I payed for my food witch I soon regret. The guy at the counter this day was too playful and personal. I was picking food up for the office staff. He got upset because I couldn’t tip. He quoted a price and they agreed. When he mentioned “make sure you take care of me” on the phone, I told him what the deal was. It was a company order, not a personal order. I can not tip with the company’s card. Besides, I never asked for “a hook up.” I’ve been a following patron at least a couple of decades at another location. I’ve had their food before (Oxon Hill location) and was not impressed. I hyped this spot to the staff. What a letdown. I’d rather have Joy’s a few doors down. The fish, chicken, and wedges are bomb! Of course, the choice is totally yours. Peace

We ordered the whiting fish sandwich with French fries. It comes with two slices of bread (white or wheat). The whiting was hot, fresh and cooked to perfection. This location maintained the same taste as the Original H&D on H Street, NE/NW. I would frequent this location back in the early 2000s when I worked off of North Capitol Street. The portions are plentiful. My husband and I shared the fish sandwich and fries. We were left full and satisfied. Only criticism is that the fries could have been cooked crispier. Next time, I will request extra crispy. Nothing worst than soggy fries. (reason for one star deduction). Otherwise, we will definitely return. I am so glad they built this location because I live in Old Town, Alexandria. This location is less of a commute than the other locations.

Excellent fried catfish and whiting with virtually no excess grease. Excellent hush puppies, a bit sweet but fine with me, and with bits of corn kernels. Good collards. Green beans were overcooked IMO but that’s their way with them. The dinner combos served us both lunch and dinner. No particular atmosphere (takeout only) but it was clean. Only one employee was handling everything, so it was a bit slow, but worth it.I regret being away so long since the H Street location closed. I plan to visit more regularly. They provided plastic forks without my asking for them, which they’re not supposed to do anymore.

I miss the Horace & Dickies on 4th st in NW. I went all the way here from Takoma to Oxon Hill just to satisfy the cravings I had, PRAYING it would do the job.
Strike 1: It’s set up like a DC carryout. No place to sit and eat. Get in, get out. Strike 2: The cleanliness is not up to par with my standards. Strike 3: I ordered a chicken and fish platter and they didn’t have any chicken. Mind you they’re located in a strip mall with an international market. No excuse in my opinion. I excused myself and made my way home because I took that as a sign, to not spend money just to be disappointed further.

Just left there. The customer service was OUTSTANDING. My fish was good, string beans were good and cole slaw good. Y’all should be ashamed of yourself for serving that Mac n cheese. No flavor or cheese whatsoever. Needs to be taken off the menu or find someone that can cook it.
