My husband and I wanted to try a new place (somewhere we hadn’t eaten before), and I stumbled on Hopestill Restaurant and Bar as I was looking through reviews of local places. There weren’t many reviews, but something about the place just called out to me, so I made a reservation. I am so glad I did!
We arrived to the restaurant on time and were seated promptly. The space is small–room for about 10 seated at tables and more at the bar. Very beautiful, simple, and clean interior. Service was perfect! Quite an accomplishment with (I believe) just 2 employees (the owners?)!
There is a large cocktail menu and the restaurant features wines from their own winery. We tried the house vermouth and it was lovely–delicate and refreshing.
The food menu is small, but everything we tasted was wonderful! The bread, salted cod cakes, scallops Mozambique, and rustic cavatelli. Despite being completely stuffed, we (I) couldn’t resist trying the dessert. We had the leite creme, which was similar to a lighter, orange and cinnamon infused crème brûlée. A delicious way to end our meal.
I can’t think of a single negative thing to say about Hopestill Restaurant and Bar! Already looking forward to visiting again and trying more of their menu.

We had dinner at Hopestill Restaurant this evening. We had a wonderful time.!The food was exquisite! The cocktails were perfectly prepared!The atmosphere was warm, cozy and friendly. This is a must visit for those with discerning taste and a desire to spend a special time with that someone special. It is a gem!!!

What a delightful new place to discover in Newmarket! Hopestill Restaurant features delicious, seasonal fare with a well curated wine and cocktail program. The owners are also winemakers, and the menu features their red and white varietals, along with a beautiful vermouth! The menu is limited based on availability of the freshest, quality ingredients. You can really taste the love and care the Chef puts into each dish.
The atmosphere is cozy in the small charming space. Although walk ins are welcome, its always best to book in advance. The chef works alone and prepares each dish individually. This is a place to relax and enjoy, so a little patience will be rewarded with tasty and memorable cuisine.
Service was friendly, attentive and knowledable, and hospitality was outstanding. Spencer and Amanda are two wonderful people who make it their mission to provide the best possible dining experience. I loved my visit to Hopestill and look forward to returning as often as possible.

This place was absolutely incredible. Both the wine and food were amazing. I highly recommend coming to this place. It’s the perfect date night spot. The owners are the sweetest people ever. I will definitely be coming back!

Although it’s a Portuguese restaurant, as a Brazilian I was pleasantly surprised to find dishes like caldo verde and bolinho de bacalhau, which made the experience even more special.

New favorite date night spot! This place is absolutely charming, compact but comfortable. The cocktail list is tremendous, and every one we tried was a hit. The food was excellent, as well. Friendly, attentive service and the bartender was extremely helpful with recommendations. Can’t wait to go back.

I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant. The atmosphere is cozy and sophisticated, the food is somehow both comforting and surprising. I was blown away by the cod. The drinks were so interesting and layered, and their house vermouth is to die for! I didn’t even know I liked vermouth. It’s evident that every single detail was curated with love and intention by the beautiful husband and wife duo that own and operate the venue. 12/10 experience.

What a wonderful addition to Newmarket. The owners passion really comes through in the food and creative cocktails. Tried the fresh bread, shrimp, empanadas, potato soup, scallop Mozambique and cavatelli. Everything was incredible. My favorite was the mushrooms in the cavatelli.

I love this place! It is a perfect little jewel of a restaurant with cozy vibes, incredibly welcoming and friendly staff/owners and some of the best food and cocktails around. Everything here is so obviously made with love and intention. The menu is small (love that) and there absolutely no bad choices. It was just a small note in all of the delicious things last night, but they had pickled celeriac with the salt cod cakes and that taste absolutely blew my mind. I am now obsessed.

Spencer and Amanda creates a space that is pure magic. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. Their wines are delicious, the vermouth is now my absolute favorite and is all made my them! The food is very well done and delicious. I could eat their pasta dish and crunchy fava beans every day. I honestly wanted to order the entire menu. Don’t skip out on the cocktails. These are some of the best cocktails we’ve had. What a stunning addition to New Market. I live in kittery and it is worth every second of the drive. I wish I took more photos but we were enjoying ourselves too much!
