I’ve had hop poh a handful of times over the years and I’ve never really been a fan, I only get it from here if I’m craving it and it’s too late to go towards reading whatever other reasons .. I always go closer to Reading for my Chinese food..
This place has declined since the first time I’ve tried it.. food is almost bland and not cooked with care it seems like, even when you specify what your looking for they don’t listen and now they’ve cut back on the Portion size compared to others where they stuff it so much you can see the food almost squishing thru the clear lid
Hopefully they make changes soon..
I’m posting two pictures, first one will be hop poh’s food the second and third will be from my go to spot near Reading for your own judgment.. take note of the amount of contents in the rice. on this one I asked for egg and I got maybe a quarter size of it in the entire amount of rice..

Chicken or Shrimp fried rice is not normal, they give you plain rice with Chicken or Shrimp. Called, they say you have to ask to get the veggies, onions, and pork. Ordered from there a year ago and the food was normal. Called and was told to “Have a Good Day”!

Have ordered from Hop Poh many times with no issues. Last night I ordered fried crab and this piece of plastic was inside. I like their food but this will be the last order from me.

Everytime we ordered it seems like the lady on the phone was inconvenienced we were ordering. She’s rude and hangs up before you are done, multiple times my wife had to call back and say hey I wasn’t done ordering. The food is bland and small portions to boot. It’s within walking distance but I will deliberately drive to the Chinese place in Orwigsburg over going here. Never eating here again

This was the first time I ever got food here that wasn’t very good. I got the orange chicken mild and the chicken was stringy and some hard. It seems like it was made the day before and reheated too long. The fried rice seemed dry too. I also asked for extra sweet and Sour packets. I only had 3 to share with 2 people. The girl was very hard to understand too. My husband got the boneless ribs and he said they were good.

Hop Poh Chinese Restaurant is located in Hamburg Pennsylvania. I visited there on the last day of spring in 2018. I was the only one there, looked over the menu, but decided to leave because the dining area is not air conditioned. There was similar situation at a restaurant in Orwigsburg later that day and I walked out of that place too. It’s hot outside and I want to dine in comfort. Oh well, perhaps next time when I’m in the Hamburg area.

Stopped by when I decided to visit Hamburg. Was very curious because I saw a lot of people walk in and out. Seemed quite busy so the lady sounded curt but respectful. They had my food out pretty quickly for how busy it was. Boy was it a treat. Guess that’s why they’re basically the only Chinese joint in town, probably put the rest out of business.
Highly recommend the general tso chicken. It is not too sickly sweet and sticky. Excellent balance of slightly sweet, salty, spicy and sour (get sesame chicken if you don’t like spicy or orange if you want sweet). Even more recommended if you can sit down and eat it fresh like I did. It was still crispy which I have never had elsewhere!
Also recommend trying the cheese steak roll. It’s very gooey and cheesy and has sweet onions which I love in cheese steaks.
The beef and broccoli was truly the best I’ve ever had. The beef was so tender I almost couldn’t believe it.
Also they absolutely stuff the boxes for take out. It almost spilled over when I opened them in my car. My total was less than 30 bucks and was able to feed 2 adults for 2 full meals.

I’ve never felt compelled to write a negative review till now. The general tsos was $11, slightly over the average for my area, but the chicken itself was barely edible strings. Most of the “chicken” seemed to be breading, with the over cooked chicken existing as tiny pockets within each breading chunk, and the pork fried rice alongside it was greasy and bland (albeit well cooked) and had a grand total of maybe 10 small pork chunks, and zero vegetables. The woman who took my order was short, dismissive, and was hard to understand. As someone who has been around Chinese students a lot, it was clear to me she was making no attempt to slow her speech or announce any syllables. Two stars because the restaurant was clean and well lit and the general tsos sauce was good. There was a decent amount of it too. However I will not come again till something major changes here.

We stopped here because we have a load to pick up tomorrow and just wanted a bite to eat. We ordered 2 of the 8 piece wings with the fried rice. The chicken looked as if it was hurriedly battered and fried…they also shorted us a wing from each dinner. There was no one there and they had one call in order while we were waiting so it wasn’t busy or anything…If we are ever in the area again we probably will choose somewhere else.

She was so rude!
They stingy with the sauce too. They gave me 3 platters with 3sauces and when I asked for more she threw 3 at me.
One meat in the meal had no sauce and the other meat sauce didn’t make sense. That wasn’t sweet nor sour! It’s like what ever they had they had that day.
Portions size left me hungry.
No lunch rush so what took so long?
$30 and wasn’t worth it.
