Nice atmosphere. It is a little cramped, but not too noisy. The service was great and the food was very good. Crab dip was good but nothing out of the ordinary. The dirty cheesesteak was excellent. Get it with the hot peppers.

We sat upstairs at the bar and were surprised at how lovely the ambiance was. The bartender was excellent. Outstanding service, delicious food, and even better cocktails. The prices are very fair. We were from out of town and pleasantly surprised at how yummy our food was! It was busy but we did not have to wait.

Let me just say this!!! Hootch and Banter is a vibe!!! Everything about this restaurant is simply awesome. I knew it was going to be great, when I saw a line forming 20 minutes before the restaurant opened. It was my first time dining here and it was worth the 1 hour drive from Arlington, Virginia. I loved it so much that I would drive back and forth again. First impressions are everything and upon entering, the host sat us at a nice table by the window. It was perfect. The host was very friendly. Now on to our waiter Corey H. Shout out to Corey. He was personable, friendly and offered great recommendations for drinks, entrees and desserts. I ordered a Moscow Mule and the Mediterranean Salad with chicken. My friend had the Carne Y Huevos Rancheros. The drinks and food were grrrrrreeeaaattt! For dessert Corey recommended the beignets and they were fantastic. I honestly can’t wait to return. The menu is amazing, ambience is cute and quaint, staff are friendly and it’s a great atmosphere. Tips: Get there early. The restaurant is first come/first served. Street and Garage Parking are available.

Hootch & Banter in downtown Frederick is a win. The Filet Wellington minis were tender, flaky, and packed with flavor from the truffle duxelle and demi-glace. The fried Brussels sprouts were crispy with the perfect sweet heat from the honey sauce, bacon, and feta. Banana bread pudding sealed the deal, warm, rich, and topped with melting vanilla ice cream. Great vibe, great food, definitely going back. ️✨

Hootch and Banter is our absolute favorite for unforgettable date nights. Last evening, my husband and I enjoyed a delightful experience thanks to an exceptional bartender and a vibrant atmosphere. I even got creative and asked the chef to craft a special shrimp-and-crab cake pasta, and my husband got the Filet Me Down which were both absolutely delicious! Our waiter created his signature low-calorie Smoke-N-Berry cocktail that was simply amazing—so good, I hope to see them on the updated menu!

Excellent service from start to finish and delicious food/drinks! We sat upstairs at the bar which was gorgeous with the natural lighting and exposed brick walls. Lots of Gluten-Free options available for those with allergies like myself. I wasn’t expecting a whole lot from the turkey sandwich, but boy was that a mistake, because I cannot explain to you how GOOD this sandwich was. The fries are also incredible. Highly recommend for brunch or lunch in Fredrick!

Honestly, I was a bit disappointed with this place. We arrived around 1:55 PM and waited nearly 15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. Then we were told to come back in 20 minutes—only to be called less than 10 minutes later that our table was ready. It just felt disorganized from the start.

Our server changed halfway through the meal, and my “Banter” sandwich had no flavor or sauce and came on stale bread. Overall, the food lacked any real soul—maybe a 6/10 at best. The tres leches cake was decent, around 8/10. The mimosa, though, was served in such a tiny glass that it barely qualified as one.

Overall, a poor experience. I wouldn’t return

We had a family brunch shortly before Christmas and the decorations and atmosphere at the upstairs were lovely! The holiday-themed cocktails were delicious and the crab-featured menu items were great. The food took a little while to come but we weren’t in a big rush. We came at weekend brunch time and there were plenty of people but it didn’t feel too crowded or noisy. Definitely recommend for a good brunch spot.

After days of looking into the best restaurants in Frederick it came down to the wire to choose a brunch spot for Father’s Day. Hootch and Banter unfortunately does not take reservations but if you read the fine print on their website you will see that there are some exceptions for certain holidays (Father’s Day being one of them). I was excited to celebrate my father but also have a good meal. It took a little bit to get our table set up but we had no problem. Our host was FANTASTIC, extremely considerate and kept the energy high. She was a gem. My family shared a bunch of appetizers such as the empanadas, crab dip, and wings. The crab dip stood out the most. I got the burger and it was awesome. The home fries were a great touch. My family loved their dishes. We brought a cake for my dad’s birthday and they helped to cut and serve the cake. What an experience. They treat us like family as soon as we walked in. Look forward to going back.

The food was great, especially the Brussels sprouts — super tasty. Service was excellent, Amanda was very friendly and attentive. The burger was good, though I prefer a soft bun like a potato roll over the toasted one. Just a personal preference! Next time I’ll ask for that option. The place is small, but cozy. It doesn’t bother me, but some people might find being so close to others a bit uncomfortable when eating side by side.
