This was our first time at Hook & Barrel and believe me when I say it lives up to all the good reviews. Right away we were greeted with kindness and smiles when they opened the door for us. We didn’t have reservations so we were hoping for the best and received it! We got tucked away at a hightop near the bar and were greeted by our waiter, Michael. The food was delicious but having Michael as our waiter really took our dining experience to the next level. Thank you and your staff so much for such a great night. We will definitely be back when we find ourselves in the neighborhood again! (Michael is invited to the wedding!)
Our choices:
Fish Bites – yum!
Pimento & Cheese app – yum!
Braised Beef Short ribs & Black Garlic Wasabi Aioli Tuna- WOW!
Pineapple Bread Pudding – amazing!
Wine – Malbec – delightful!

A amazing Valentine’s meal. The food was cooked to perfection (except the lobster which was undercooked and made me sick) and beyond delicious! Atmosphere was wonderful and staff was attentive and kind. We had the Filet Mignon with Lobster and the Ahi Tuna, which id order again minus the lobster tail. We will be back. Thank you

GREAT DINING IN MYRTLE BEACH!
This is truly a special place in Myrtle Beach for dinner. Service was top notch, food was wonderful and when we’re back in the area this will be our first night out and last night out go to place for dinner, it’s that good. My husband loved the She Crab soup and said the crab cakes were probably the best he’s ever had. Trust me when I say thats a huge statement from him as he’s had them in pretty much every state on the East coast, Vegas and Washington. He loved the pimento cheese spread that accompanied their pita strips. On a recommendation, I tried the fish bites and they certainly didn’t disappoint. A lovely gesture was the birthday cake presented to my husband, which was not only quite tasty but hit the spot, great way to end the night. Thank you Hook and Barrel for making our first time in your very capable hands a great dining experience. Parking is ample and the interior decor is very pleasing. Staff are true professionals, attentive without hovering, personable, and quick to offer great suggestions be it food, drink or life in general. Be sure to make a reservation. We were there early, on a Wednesday night, in the off season and the place was rocking pretty good. I highly recommend Hook and Barrel for a wonderful dinner when you’re in Myrtle Beach.

Upon arrival, we were welcomed at the door with both genuine warmth and professionalism. They found our reservations quickly and seated us in a great location according to our wishes. The restaurant has a large, well-trained, attentive staff that positively reflects on management’s commitment to quality and customer service. The food was flavorful, perfectly cooked, appropriately seasoned, and properly portioned. Hook and Barrel includes a full bar stocked with an array of selections, and the top shelf spirits are reasonably priced for the area. The bartenders and waitstaff are engaging and sincere, and the ambience is an appealing seaside chic. We enjoyed our experience at Hook and Barrel and will happily return.

We were in town for the weekend and a quick Google search of where do the locals eat seafood brought up Hook and Barrel. It did not disappoint. I had one of the daily specials fish, creamed potatoes with peas and the hubby had steak and shrimp. We each had a salad Cesar and a wedge. They brought out homemade pimento cheese and some type of a fried bread/crackers and we gobbles it down as well. Great service and atmosphere!

Food was exceptional. Mitch, our server was very good. Possibly the best She Crab Soup I’ve ever had. Stuffed Flounder – also very wonderful. Crab cakes were ok but I’m from Maryland- I wouldn’t order again. We had a Filet that one of our party wasn’t happy with. Nick brought us a new one so all good. I would take the pecan tart over the triple chocolate any day.

We had such a wonderful dinner at Hook & Barrel! We started with the house lavash bread and pimento cheese — they even brought out a special gluten-free toast for me, which I really appreciated. The gluten-free fish bites were baked and perfectly seasoned, paired with a creamy mustard dipping sauce that was addicting.

The garlic white wine mussels were steamed to perfection! Preston ordered the ginger pear martini — very sweet and easy to drink.

For entrées, the fresh catch of the day was a whole rainbow trout, beautifully filleted and served over a rich cashew cream sauce. I added a side of saffron and date rice, which was full of flavor and complemented the fish perfectly. Preston got the crab cakes with Brussels sprouts and creamed cauliflower — the crab cake was gluten-free (a rare and delightful treat for me!) and absolutely delicious.

I also loved that the menu clearly marked which dishes could be made gluten-free — it made ordering so easy and stress-free.

Everything was excellent from start to finish. Joe, Saddona, and Adam took amazing care of us and made the whole experience feel special. We’ll definitely be back!

So glad that I decided to go here today. Be sure to ask for the happy hour menu from 4-6pm because for some reason, they do not bring it to the table when you sit down. First, they bring you these crunchy home-baked crackers with their special pimento cheese. I got all of this fish for $8 from their happy hour menu, and it was AMAZING! I think they are called fish bites, and usually come fried. It is a mixture of Salmon, tuna, mahi, and Corvina fish, and seasoned just right with lemon and other seasonings. So good, and an amazing amount of protein. I left feeling full and satisfied. The atmosphere is top notch! Definitely will be back! The servers ask if there are any food allergies, and are all very kind. Thank you for a wonderful experience, even though my girlfriend stood me up! Haha! She missed out! Between the happy hour fish bites, the free appetizer, and a craft Breezy Blonde Beer, my total was around $16, plus my tip! Try it! You won’t regret it.
