Reviews
This was our first time at Hook & Barrel and believe me when I say it lives up to all the good reviews. Right away we were greeted with kindness and smiles when they opened the door for us. We didn’t have reservations so we were hoping for the best and received it! We got tucked away at a hightop near the bar and were greeted by our waiter, Michael. The food was delicious but having Michael as our waiter really took our dining experience to the next level. Thank you and your staff so much for such a great night. We will definitely be back when we find ourselves in the neighborhood again! (Michael is invited to the wedding!)
Our choices:
Fish Bites – yum!
Pimento & Cheese app – yum!
Braised Beef Short ribs & Black Garlic Wasabi Aioli Tuna- WOW!
Pineapple Bread Pudding – amazing!
Wine – Malbec – delightful!
This is truly a special place in Myrtle Beach for dinner. Service was top notch, food was wonderful and when we’re back in the area this will be our first night out and last night out go to place for dinner, it’s that good. My husband loved the She Crab soup and said the crab cakes were probably the best he’s ever had. Trust me when I say thats a huge statement from him as he’s had them in pretty much every state on the East coast, Vegas and Washington. He loved the pimento cheese spread that accompanied their pita strips. On a recommendation, I tried the fish bites and they certainly didn’t disappoint. A lovely gesture was the birthday cake presented to my husband, which was not only quite tasty but hit the spot, great way to end the night. Thank you Hook and Barrel for making our first time in your very capable hands a great dining experience. Parking is ample and the interior decor is very pleasing. Staff are true professionals, attentive without hovering, personable, and quick to offer great suggestions be it food, drink or life in general. Be sure to make a reservation. We were there early, on a Wednesday night, in the off season and the place was rocking pretty good. I highly recommend Hook and Barrel for a wonderful dinner when you’re in Myrtle Beach.
The garlic white wine mussels were steamed to perfection! Preston ordered the ginger pear martini — very sweet and easy to drink.
For entrées, the fresh catch of the day was a whole rainbow trout, beautifully filleted and served over a rich cashew cream sauce. I added a side of saffron and date rice, which was full of flavor and complemented the fish perfectly. Preston got the crab cakes with Brussels sprouts and creamed cauliflower — the crab cake was gluten-free (a rare and delightful treat for me!) and absolutely delicious.
I also loved that the menu clearly marked which dishes could be made gluten-free — it made ordering so easy and stress-free.
Everything was excellent from start to finish. Joe, Saddona, and Adam took amazing care of us and made the whole experience feel special. We’ll definitely be back!
