Inside, the atmosphere has a rustic western charm that pairs perfectly with the food. It felt authentic, warm, and inviting. Our waiter was outstanding—kind, courteous, and attentive. They guided us through the ordering process and menu options, which I truly appreciated since it was my first visit.
Now, the food—absolutely exceptional. Every bite showcased the patience and skill that comes with true barbecue mastery. The meats were slow-cooked to perfection, infused with that unmistakable smoky flavor that carried through the entire meal. From start to finish, it was delicious.
If I had to mention one minor critique, it would be the greens—they were a bit saltier than I prefer. That said, they still had a great texture and flavor, almost as if they were steamed with a rich meat sauce. This small detail doesn’t take away from the overall experience.
I highly recommend Hoodoo to anyone looking for top-tier barbecue in Connecticut. Whether you’re a BBQ lover or just someone who enjoys great food, this spot is a must-try.
Listen… I’ve eaten BBQ all over, and I don’t say this lightly: HooDoo Brown BBQ is the real deal. Not “pretty good for the Northeast” BBQ. I’m talking stand-your-ground, smoke-soaked, silence-at-the-table BBQ.
You walk in and the smell hits you first — that deep, honest wood smoke that tells you someone’s been babysitting meat all night. No shortcuts. No funny business.
The brisket? Tender enough to pull apart with your fingers, bark on the outside, juicy on the inside, and seasoned just right so it doesn’t need to hide behind sauce (but the sauces are excellent if you want them).
The pulled pork is rich and smoky, not mushy, and piled high like they’re not worried about food costs.
And the ribs? Fall-off-the-bone without being overcooked — that sweet spot most places miss.
Sides matter at a BBQ joint, and HooDoo gets that. Mac and cheese, cornbread, beans, slaw — all of it tastes like it belongs on the tray, not like an afterthought scooped from a steam table.
Portions are generous, the vibe is laid-back, and the staff actually seems proud of what they’re serving — which tells you everything you need to know.
This is the kind of place you plan around. The kind you bring people to when you say, “Trust me.”
If you love BBQ and haven’t been to HooDoo Brown BBQ, you’re missing one of the best smokehouses.
Me and my family ordered brisket, turkey, crispy pork and half a slab of ribs. Everything was delicious. Fresh and prepared to be so presentable. I recommend this place to anyone visiting from out of town if you like BBQ. Definitely one of the best BBQ spots I have ever been to in the U.S!
The meats are always on point: tender, flavorful, and smoked the way BBQ should be. The brisket falls apart, the ribs are meaty, and nothing feels rushed or dried out. You can tell they take their time here, and it shows in every tray that hits the table.
And the Bloody Marys? Fully loaded and absolutely worth ordering. This isn’t a sad drink with a celery stick- it’s a full experience, stacked with BBQ goodness and bold flavor. Perfect pairing with the food and honestly a meal in itself.
The vibe is casual, fun, and unfussy – precisely what you want when you’re sitting down to real BBQ. Whether you’re coming hungry or just stopping in for a drink and a bite, Hoodoo Brown always delivers.
Reliable, satisfying, and done right every time. One of those places you can confidently recommend without hesitation.
But the real star was the dessert: the s’mores pie. Honestly, it was one of the best desserts I’ve ever had in my life – creamy, balanced, and the perfect sweet ending to the meal.
Definitely a place I’d love to come back to!
