I went to Hong Kong Buffet yesterday with my family for my cousin’s birthday celebration, and the experience was honestly terrible. I came here about three years ago and remembered the place being packed, clean, and full of fresh, delicious food. I don’t know what happened, but the quality has dropped dramatically.
From the moment we walked in, the worker at the front was rude — not just to my mom and cousin, but to me as well. The restaurant was almost empty, and the place had a bad smell that made the whole atmosphere uncomfortable.
When we went to get food, most of it was cold, hard, and tasted nothing like it used to. The garlic bread was so hard it was basically inedible, and it honestly made me not want garlic bread anymore. The desserts looked unappealing and were also hard. There were even flies around the food area, which is unacceptable for any restaurant.
The decorations next to the fridge looked neglected, like no one had touched or cleaned them in a long time. It added to the feeling that the place just isn’t being taken care of anymore.
While we were eating, I overheard another customer complaining about the same issues, so it wasn’t just us. Meanwhile, the worker was literally sitting down watching TV like he was chilling at home instead of working. It felt unprofessional and honestly disrespectful, especially considering how empty the restaurant was.
The utensils were dirty, and I had to try cleaning them myself using the water from the drink machine. Even then, they still didn’t feel clean. The only thing that tasted decent was the ice cream — and that says a lot.
Overall, this place has gone downhill in every way. What used to be a good buffet is now poorly maintained, with rude service, bad food, and an uncomfortable environment. I won’t be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
There was a refrigerator next to the buffet that looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in decades, which made me wonder how anything back there is cleaned at all—especially if they’re using the same rags everywhere. The tables weren’t cleaned either. On top of that, the fact that this place only accepts cash “to avoid fees” is a joke. The fines this place is likely facing should warrant a complete shutdown before someone ends up with food poisoning.
The meat on a stick didn’t even taste like meat—I couldn’t finish it. Most of the food ended up wrapped in a napkin and thrown away. We walked in and the restaurant was empty, which should have been a warning sign. I told a man who appeared to be a cook or server that the food was cold, and the next thing I know, he was yelling at someone in the kitchen. After realizing that my choices were getting fewer, I thought I can try the ice cream. I can’t even put this into words. Let’s just say i would have preferred ice cream from McDonalds. What ashamed!
I gave this place one star only because the waitress—who looked timid and afraid of being reprimanded—was the only person who seemed attentive. I truly hoped this place would be good, but it was an absolute disappointment. Terribly, terribly bad place to eat.
