One evening we ventured along Buford Highway to Hong Kong BBQ, concealed within the industrious corridors of Atlanta Chinatown Mall, in pursuit of Chinese culinary sustenance.

The roast duck proved to be quite good. Its skin shattered with theatrical flourish; beneath lay flesh tender, savory, and faintly sweet, quite perfectly composed.

My partner selected the General Tso’s chicken crisp, sauced with admirable boldness, and possessed of sufficient spirit to command respect. It, too, was rather good.

In a moment fit for tragic verse, I reached for a takeout parcel not destined for my table and was corrected with brisk authority. Thus chastened, I reflected: in establishments of the familial persuasion, those modest kingdoms governed by apron and ledger rather than corporate decree one is received not as a pampered guest, but as a necessary inconvenience. Such is the custom. One is directed, corrected and, should Providence deem it amusing, mildly scolded for standing where one ought not to stand.

Yet I confess: it is a bargain most equitable.

I ordered Uber eats for $87.45. I was excited because they had crispy pork belly. The food had no flavor. Like the sauce was bland, the meat and rice was bland. I could have eaten paper that was more flavorful. I really wanted to like this, I got the shrimp fried rice, mixed bbq on rice, chicken and string beans and 2 hot and sour soups. The crispy pork was crispy it could have been saved with some seasoning. I haven’t tried the soups yet. I threw the other food away. Three is for the pork belly being crispy, the shrimp fried rice was kinda decent. Money wasted…smh.

Picked up take -out on a Monday afternoon. Been a long time since we’ve had Chinese style BBQ, so this was great. This is located in a food court of Atlanta’s old Chinatown “mall” but it has plenty of seating and an authentic Chinatown feel. The service was good, and the food was delicious. We ordered a whole roast duck which the chop if you want., dry beef chow fun (wide rice noodles that are addictive,) and crispy skinned pork taken from a fully cooked whole pig hanging in their display window. A cash discount (or some call it a credit card fee.) made me feel very nostalgic

It’s been a while since I had dry-fried beef chow fun, and I really enjoy those wide rice noodles with that perfect wok flavor. I requested a bit of spice this time, which made it even better. The portion was generous, and the beef pieces were big and tasty. No real complaints—just a little on the oily side. Definitely something I’d order again when the craving hits.
Their BBQ three-meat combo rice is really good. It comes with roast duck, crispy roast pork, and BBQ spare ribs, along with some Shanghai bok choy and rice. The portion is generous and very satisfying—finishing it by myself left me really full.

Food is okay, I think the taste may vary depending on the time and day. If you like sweeter meats, this is the place to go.

Some a y’all may remember that I lived in Hong Kong for 2 years, and this past Thanksgiving, I decided what I wanted a smoked Duck (especially since the price of an 8-10 lb Heritage turkey was about $150)!

We heard about HK BBQ from a colleague, and after checking around on cost, this one was THE most reasonable. Whole roasted Duck ($31.99) Half Duck ($16.89) if you’re just curious and want to try. Ducks hang in the window so you can pick out the one you want.

So, a couple things: You can buy the duck, but they don’t sell the “pancakes”. I asked.
The owner, who was very nice told me, “That’s how they do it in Hong Kong, we don’t sell it that way here.” I thought that was curious.. u kno.. since you named your business HK BBQ ‍♀️

The duck was excellent (even though we didn’t have the pancakes)!
I want to take a moment to mention the facility that the cafe is located in: as you approach the restaurant/cafe there’s a beautiful sitting area that brings the outside in (as you’d expect in Asia). It’s very serene and a nice enclave to have lunch if you have time to stop.

HK BBQ is located in a food court. There are a few other cafes in the court, but from what I saw, they didn’t seem as popular, as HK BBQ were the only ones with a line.

The last thing I’ll say is that their menu is QUITE extensive! It’s two sided, separated by a black and white side. If you dig Chinese food, you’ll have a ball going through this menu!

The 1/4 duck was mostly bones. See the pictures. They cheat you here. Go to Mings instead. Same price with rice and more duck. Shady Hong Kong BBQ is bad.

The duck received was some odd color like it had been refrigerated then reheated. The noodles were bland without much of a taste. Not worth the money. I know times are tough but you can’t sell old product or meat. A waste of 60$

Pretty solid Cantonese BBQ . Skin is crispy on the pork. Meat is marinated enough. If you get a combo with rice and soy sauce, you will have a pretty good meal for $14. Can’t be too picky since we are not in HK.
There is a fee for credit card.
Parking is a problem because it is in the food court and there are many other businesses around. After 12pm you going to have some trouble

Visited Chinatown in Atlanta and tried the Peking duck at this place. Finally found a spot that serves it just right! Crispy, juicy, and everything you’d expect from a Peking duck. Even the fancy restaurants I’ve been to couldn’t match up. Already craving more!
