This place came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. I went on word of mouth without discovering it was cash only. After a little hunting and finding several ATMs on Google Maps missing or broken, I was able to get cash at Bank of America.

I came for the Baked Pork Bun, but also tried the Egg Custard and Red Bean Paste Mochi Roll.

The Pork Bun was HUGE, and the best I have ever had. The owner gave credit to the dough being mixed by hand rather than machine. One is intended to be a meal. I was worried at its size it would fall apart, but it held together. Light, fluffy, and delicious. I was a little concerned when it was taken from rhe warmer and put in a microwave for 15 seconds, but it did not negatively impact the result as far as I could tell. BEST EVER!!

The mochi was more tender and soft than I have ever experienced, and in the most wonderful way. I am used to stretchy and chewy mochi. This was mlre delicate and silky. They look haphazard, but the texture and flavor completely makes up for it.

The Egg Custard was much mlre like a flan in a French pastry as opposed to what I expected of a South Asian Egg Custard. I expect if you like flan, it was good, but my preference is the variety that is more like sweet red bean paste than flan.

I wish I had taken pictures before I ate it all.

I look forward to going back again soon!

I frequently visit Hong Kong Bakery and highly recommend the egg tarts, baked or steamed pork buns, steamed custard buns, sesame balls, and mango mochi. The food is consistently good, and all of the treats are larger than you would expect (a baked pork bun & egg tart is enough for me for lunch). The owner is also very sweet and friendly! It is cash only and around $4-6 per item, which seems reasonable for the portion size, quality, and location in downtown Mountain View.

I visited Hong Kong Bakery for the first time with a friend who is a big fan and I became a big fan too. The owner was so friendly and even gave us a sample after our order which we really appreciated.

I ordered:
4 Mango Mochi
4 Banana Mochi
4 Red Bean Mochi
2 Sesame Balls
2 Egg Tarts

I liked everything but I especially liked the Mango and Red Bean.

The sponge cakes look so delicious but the taste is very disappointing. They are either too sweet and have an artificial aftertaste or the cake itself is too hard – I feel like I’m eating a flavored piece of cement. The price is also kinda high for the quality, $7 per piece of cake and cash only, honestly it feels like a rip off.

Didn’t know I wanted an egg custard tart until I walked by and saw this place. Good thing I did because my life changed! Amazing texture, perfect crust, so tasty! I’m a little glad I don’t live close by because I’d be here all the time. Would love to try one of the other beautiful offerings. Don’t forget your cash!

CASH ONLY SERVICE! Classic Hong Kong bakery with all of the classic baked goods made by the owner who has been here for MANY years. The lemon cake is moist and tasty! Almond cookies have that familiar flavor and crunch. The red bean sesame balls are my favorite!

This place is a great experience! The person you order from I believe is one of the owners and she is happy to provide recommendations as well as advice on how to eat the pastries (warm them up, etc). The moon cakes, sweet buns, and pork buns are good but my favorite are the mango mochi.

Possible downsides:
– no restroom
– cash only
– business hours seem flexible

Can’t get enough of this egg custard tart! For $2.50 is so worth it. Also their BBQ pork bun is so good!

I unfortunately had to move out of California, but let me tell you just how much I miss this place so much. I have so many moments where I am craving their sweets. My sister and I would always stop by after school and get a treat for ourselves. The owners are so sweet and welcoming. I highly suggest to come visit and get a little something for yourself as well!
