Hong Kong 1 in Hartford City has easily become our go-to spot for Chinese food, and after ordering from here many, many times, I can honestly say the quality never changes. That kind of consistency is rare. Every single time the food is hot, fresh, and exactly what you expect. In my opinion, it’s the most solid, reliable, and best-tasting Chinese restaurant in the East-Central Indiana area—and I would even put it above some of the larger buffet-style places nearby.
The Crab Rangoon are outstanding—perfectly crispy on the outside with a creamy, flavorful filling that isn’t overly sweet. Their Beef and Broccoli is another standout: tender beef, fresh broccoli, and a savory sauce that’s balanced and satisfying. The Sweet and Sour Chicken is always done right as well—crispy chicken with a bright, tangy sauce that hits that classic comfort-food spot. Beyond those, many of their more traditional dishes are just as excellent and clearly made with care.
Another thing I genuinely appreciate is their takeout system. It’s simple, efficient, and very well organized. For people who prefer quick and easy pickup (especially introverts like my wife, lol), it’s honestly perfect. Order, grab your food, and you’re on your way—no hassle.
Great food, fair prices, and a system that just works. If you’re anywhere near Hartford City and want dependable, delicious Chinese food, Hong Kong 1 is absolutely worth it.

We had the Black Pepper Chicken and the Chicken Chow Mein.
The Black Pepper Chicken was outstanding – some of the best I’ve had. The Chow Main was alright, but less flavorful than other places.
They went over-the-top on COVID measures here. The whole pickup experience feels like walking into a biohazard containment zone. Not terribly welcoming.

I love their food, their food is amazing and one of my favorite places to eat at. The only problem that I do have with this place is that They don’t give you the proper change back. i bought something that was $14.59, I gave the person upfront a $20. My change bag should’ve been $5.41 but instead i got $1.41. I don’t know if it was a mistake, but that is absolutely ridiculous.
And I know I didn’t leave a tip because when it gave me the option, I put zero dollars.

Friendly, professional staff. A kind and hardworking family. Great food at great prices. No atmosphere to speak of as it is not a dine-in restaurant, it’s take-out only. For less than $25 we can get two quarts of beef and broccoli with green peppers and each quart comes with a side of white rice. It lasts us for dinner and a lunch the following day. $25 for two meals for two people is a price you can’t beat. We order at least 2-3 times a month and have never been disappointed. You can also order online via their website and pay when you arrive to pick up the food. Orders are usually ready within 15-20 minutes or less.

Go to the grocery store buy some frozen crap and microwave it. It will be better than anything from this dungeon. This place sucks I mean really sucks. There is no dine in and the order pickup area is a tunnel worse than what I have seen in downtown Chicago.

Lunch portions were more than adequate , the foods appearance was very appealing , and the taste of the food was above average. Wait time between ordering and pick up was minimal. The person on the phone who took the order was polite and thorough, pick up, and financial exchange was handled proficiently and pleasantly. I recommend this establishment and will definitely order from here again myself .

You know it’s authentic when the kid is the only one who speaks English and there’s always a kid doing homework in the corner. Inside is kinda sketchy, don’t recommend dining in, but their food is great for carry out. Huge portions, definitely worth ordering.
