We ordered all you can eat hotpot for lunch.
All the ingredients are so fresh. Even The blue crab was prepared alive!
The portion of each item is also well managed so that we can taste a wide variety of stuff!
The service was top notch too! Our waiter has been super attendant and would go above and beyond if he noticed we may need some help!
Don’t forget about the cold dish and dessert area. We almost missed it.
At 32 per person, it has been the best experience i have had in years!
Unfortunately, the experience fell short. The seating is uncomfortable (high tables with low chairs), the décor is loud, service is decent – the manager walks around checking, and the Peking duck is just so-so.
We ordered:
•String beans – tender and fine
•XLB (soup dumplings)
•Beijing duck
XLB:
•Well made, none broken
•Skin is fine
•Soup is slightly sweet
•Filling tastes processed
The duck is pre-sliced, and I doubt it comes close to the traditional 108 slices. They do let you take the bones home. I came specifically because they use thin pancakes instead of steamed buns, but the pancakes were sticky, damp, and rather cold; they need careful handling to unfold. When the duck was served, the two slots for cucumber and scallions were empty.
We ordered a bottle of wine. The server had to open it elsewhere because her opener was broken. When she returned, she poured directly into our glasses. I understand this is a casual restaurant and formal service isn’t expected—I’m okay with that. (Are they still in the soft opening period?)
The duck itself is small. We could have ordered more, but didn’t. The entire time I sat there, I kept wishing I were a few inches taller and that I’d brought two phone books with me. The visual assault is hard to stomach.
On the plus side, the bathroom is clean and spacious. However, the stall I used had no bag hook. Isles are wide but tables are small.
It has two sections: the duckies and hot pots.
Hong BBQ & Hot Pot in Brandon is already known for its all-you-can-eat hot pot, but they’ve recently added a Chen’s Duck & Dumplings menu, and it’s definitely worth checking out.
I visited during a soft opening and had an amazing experience trying items outside my usual comfort zone. The Chen Peking duck was the standout! It was incredibly crispy skin with juicy meat (honestly reminded me of chicharrón in the best way).
We also tried the mango nigoir liquor, pan-fried buns, veggie dumplings, jajang noodles, heritage pork wonton soup, chicken dumplings, chili shrimp dumplings, crab rangoon, and green beans. Everything was flavorful and thoughtfully prepared, and it was fun sampling such a wide variety of dishes.
The atmosphere was lively, the service was attentive—shout out to our amazing waiter Ria, and the new menu adds an exciting layer to an already popular spot. If you’re in Brandon and love dumplings, duck, or trying something new, this is a must-try.
Our server, Danica, was spectacular and she went the extra mile when checking food for a severe allergy in our group. She was also incredibly helpful and kind with the older people in our group who had never done hot pot before.
The set up was great and the food was delicious. Plenty of yummy sauces and spicies at the sauce bar and all the good that came out was nice a fresh.
We also enjoyed the scallion pancakes and soup dumplings from the a la carte menu as well as specialy teas. I got the jasmine with sea salt cheese foam – yum! My sister had the fresh lime – also yum!
They had a fun promo for Chinese New Year as well. It was a trading card type game and if you collect all 5 you get a free meal!
Overall, I would highly recommend it! Our large group of 11 had an awesome time.
The service was friendly and attentive, and the ambiance made it a comfortable spot for a casual meal with friends or family. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for authentic Chinese flavors with standout dishes like the Peking duck and dumplings!
The rest of the Chinese food was also very authentic. I especially liked the Fu Chi Fei Pian, Dan Dan Noodles, and Xiao Long Bao, which tasted just like what I’ve had in Shanghai, with very flavorful soup.
The restaurant is clean, comfortable, and beautifully decorated with Chinese elements. For the duck, I recommend ordering ahead, otherwise expect about a 45min wait.
Definitely worth a visit if you’re craving real Chinese food in Tampa or Florida.
Recommend!
My husband and I make a habit of exploring every dim sum or dumpling place we can find. We’ve traveled to dozens of restaurants from California to Atlanta to Orlando, and this is easily the best soup dumplings I’ve had. The broth is full and savory, and can stand alone. The dumpling sauce makes it event better with ginger.
We also did the garlic green beans and chengdu chicken, and those were also phenomenal. The chengdu chicken was spicy, mouth watering, and somehow bright and light as well!
The staff was kind and engaging, the manager stopped by to see how we’re doing, and the service was quick.
The place inside hong’s is cute and vibrant, and I’ve already texted a friend to make plans to come back before I’ve even paid the bill.
If you’re a fan of Asian flavors and comforting dishes, this place is a MUST. Definitely coming back and highly recommend it!
