The service was solid overall. Everyone was polite, attentive, and checking in at the right times. Drinks came out fast, and the food timing was pretty smooth, so I can’t complain about the staff at all. They definitely did their part to make the experience enjoyable, and that matters a lot.
Now for the food — this is where it was good, but not “wow.” The flavors were decent, and everything looked really nice on the plate. You can tell they put effort into presentation, and the menu has options that sound exciting. But once you start eating, it feels like something is missing. It wasn’t bad in any way, it just didn’t have that extra punch, seasoning, or uniqueness that makes you say, “Okay, now THIS is worth coming back for.” Some items were better than others, but overall it felt more like a safe, solid meal instead of something memorable.
I also think my expectations were just higher because of how much people talk about it. When a restaurant gets that kind of reputation, you walk in expecting every bite to be next level. Honeybird is still a good spot, and I’d recommend it if you’re nearby or want something reliable, but I don’t know if I’d go out of my way for it again. It’s a nice restaurant with a good experience — just not as impressive as I thought it would be
I tried five different donuts and two breakfast sandwiches. The donuts were on the thicker side and lacked flavor. I was really expecting something lighter, fluffier, and more flavorful, especially given the variety and hype.
Donuts:
Dubai Chocolate donut
Crème Brûlée donut
Cookie Butter donut
Maple Pecan donut
Glazed Donut Holes (6-count)
Breakfast Sandwiches:
Bacon, Egg & Cheese sandwich (on a bun)
Breakfast Biscuit sandwich (with bacon).
The breakfast sandwiches had a decent amount of filling, but neither stood out. I ordered one on a bun and one on a biscuit. The bun was just… a bun, nothing special, and the biscuit was very doughy and didn’t add much to the sandwich.
Nothing was bad, but nothing really wowed me either. Based on what I tried, it was an average experience and not something I’d go out of my way for.
Update: decided to give Honeybird another chance, ordered the spicy chicken sandwich, and was disappointed once again.
I’ve been coming here since 2022, loving all the drinks and food items, but particularly the breakfast food like tacos and sandwiches. One of my most common orders is the Breakfast Taco with tots, egg and cheese. The tots add a nice hash butteriness to the taco that I can’t replicate at home when I try to recreate it.
That would have all been a positive enough review, but today I placed a pick up order for two of the previously mentioned tacos, but a family member went to pick it up for me along with their order. There is no comment area in the online pickup format that I’ve ever seen or used, so normally in person I ask for extra hot sauce for my tacos. They make salsa in house for the tacos and it’s delicious with the tacos, but they normally give you one for each taco. I love it so much that I ask for two, but this time I knew I wasn’t going to pick it up so I didn’t even think about it. Well—I think they may know my name in the shop at this point because when my family members came back with our orders my bad had 4 salsa containers in it!!
I’ve considered Honeybird one of the most consistently satisfyingly food places in all of Flower Mound for 4 years now. I show every one I know this shop, its donuts and coffee, its pleasing cute atmosphere, and I’ve never left someone disappointed. Aka, I haven’t overhyped it, apparently!
And as if all that wasn’t enough, their reward system through toast is quite generous. I love the surprise of a $5 off every once in a while.
If you aren’t into breakfast tacos, try the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese sandwich. I don’t know WHAT they’re doing to that bacon but its some of the best I’ve ever had, especially on a sandwich.
Though I don’t normally like sweets in the morning I am partial to their cronuts, a croissant style donut with buttery layers. Get it with nutella for a nice variation on it.
I hope my enthusiasm hasn’t made you suspicious of my motives. I get no benefit from writing this review the same way the store gets no benefit from giving me extra salsas. I’m happy to continue to support one of my favorite locals businesses, as they’re becoming increasingly rare as time goes on. Give em a shot.
This time though, it was unfortunattely not good.
The Honeybird Sandwich was an absolute disappointment. The biscuit on the sandwich did not taste anything like a biscuit. I have had this sandwich a lot of times in the past and have loved it but this time, it was bad.
The Latte wasn’t great either.
Looks like the standards have gone down and that is a shame.
Overall the place is great! Come check it out!
The matcha drink was super flavorful, but the donut is more strawberry flavor focused.
The cookie butter donut was our top choice, with crème brûlée and s’mores taking a close second. The base donut is plain but is a good match for the super sweet and flavorful toppings.
The indoor seating is small but good for groups of 2-4 when it isn’t busy. They have the cutest little boxes the donuts and fries came in, so it’s easy to take to go.
