Thankful for serving New Year faves today, blackeye peas cabbage and a huge porkchop. It was so good.
A true hidden jewel in plain sight. The biggest chicken fried steak I’ve seen in a long time and good. I will be making the trip back to try their other goodies. 2nd trip same dinner but tried some pie. Oh boy it was good.

Most everything on the menu comes in a large and a small – and this was the “small” chicken fried steak !

Love to stop at local diners when I’m on a road trip. It was almost closing time at the Honey Hole when we stopped but we were made to feel quite welcome by a very attentive server. The menu had a huge variety of food to choose from. My grandson got the Cowboy Chicken sandwich and it was basically a complete meal on a bun, including bacon and onion rings. I stole a couple of his fries and they were great. The salad bar was stocked with a good variety of fresh ingredients and the big pot of free BBQ beans could have been a meal on their own. I ordered the “small ” chicken fried steak and it was everything I expected though not sure why they call it small ! It was a fantastic meal, my only negative might have been the mashed potatoes. The gravy was super tasty but the potato was more like a baked potato that had been smashed than actual mashed potatoes. Overall, a great place, with good service and good food.

We had very high hopes of this place that had amazing reviews. We were greeted by a young lady and told to sit wherever we would like. We sat in a both across the room from the front door. We ordered the boudin egg roll appetizer and our dinners. My husband wanted the large chicken fry but was informed that they were out. My husband asked if they could substitute two small ones (5 ounce) to make up a large one (10 ounce). We were informed that they cannot do that without upcharging the small by $8 which would have made that $3 more than the large. We were slightly confused as 10 ounces is 10 ounces, but ok…..he ordered the small with double mashed potatoes. We waited 15 min for one of the other young girls to inform us that they were out of the appetizer. So I asked if I could go ahead and use one of my trips to the salad bar. She said yes. We waited 30 more minutes (45 min at this point) with no one saying anything to us about the wait we were having. Then someone came over to the 6 top seated next to us and apologized for the wait as there was a fairly large party in the back room. We were unaware of this as they were around the wall from us. 15 minutes later they started serving that 6 top and we overheard that they were also out of mashed potatoes. So my husband went up to the “hostess station” and inquired about that. They said in fact they were out of potatoes but that our order was literally ready to bring to our table. My husband said that no one came to our table to let us know they were out of potatoes so what were they bringing to the table? We asked if we could pay for the salads and asked why we hadn’t been told that it was going to be such a long wait at any time of the hour we had been there. The young lady told us we should have known that by the amount of vehicles in the parking lot. Ma’am Ma’am…we are not from here, we have no idea what your parking lot looks like on a Saturday night and that most certainly is not the appropriate response from someone in the hospitality service industry. Just wow. I have no words of how highly disappointed we were in our experience passing through this town. So we had to make our way to Applebees where we were promptly sat, and had our food within 15 minutes.

Took a day trip from Dallas to Marshall to see their beautiful downtown courthouse. Coming into the city we came across the Honey Hole Café and decided to stop since they promote catfish.

As you can see, I ordered the catfish, the shrimp was very tasty as was the batter however, if you just bit half of the shrimp, all the batter would fall off the entire shrimp and it was consistently that way with all. The catfish, while some of it was firm and crisp, a lot of my pieces were soggy so much so that when I bit into it, it was slimy. It was under cooked. The green beans looked like they came from a can; they had zero flavor! And a poor quality green bean. The hush puppies were super greasy and for some reason they fell apart when you just touch them. One of my biggest disappointments was the tartar sauce… throw that away. It really cannot be consumed. It was terrible.. the best thing that they had, IMO, were the free beans. They had little pieces of ground beef. The flavor was delicious. Everything about it was.

One of the guys I was with had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. Those mashed potatoes must’ve come straight from the box. They were overly watered. They had zero seasoning. It was bad on bad no flavor. Minimal salad bar, but I’m okay with that. I liked everything they offered.

Now, for the good part, the service was very quick. The servers were professional and nice, and our drinks were full the entire. The bathrooms were clean. The space was clean.

I had the catfish and shrimp and it didn’t have much of a taste. We also ordered the chicken fried chicken which was really good. The gravy had a lot of pepper just how I like it. The mash was chunky and had a good taste. Burger was equally taste. Think my plate was the only one that’s lacked flavor. The free beans were pretty good also

They offered the private dining area for my mothers celebration of life. This is a wonderful place with an amazing staff. In our darkest hour they were kind, loving, and professional but still treated us like family. I recommend this place to all who are local, passing through or looking for great atmosphere, comfort food and a sense of community. Again thank you all so much for hosting our family and friends.

A hidden gem! The cheeseburger was delicious, the fries were crispy and perfectly seasoned! The best part was Ashlyn, our waitress! She was so adorable. Very happy, bubbly, and so welcoming. The best waitress I have had in my 62 years. Go check out this wonderful restaurant!

Chicken Fried Steak is not something we take lightly in our household. My husband has tried it at darn near every restaurant we go to that has it. He always says “Can’t no one make it like Momma makes it” well this one is the closest we found to how momma makes it. I ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken, well it got written down wrong and I got the chicken fried steak, boy that was the best mess up in my eyes. It was so tender we used butter knifes to cut it. It was flavorful and moist. Their beans were some of the better beans I have had anywhere. I absolutely loved the green beans, just enough pepper for some spice, yummy From the time we walked in, we felt at home. The atmosphere is so friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back next time we are working in Marshall.
