I tried this place for the first time to kick off BHM and support local a black business and I do not regret it at all. I went on Soul food Sunday and was greeted by the wife of the owner who was very sweet and patient with me while I took forever to figure out what I wanted. After a few minutes I was also was given a sample bbq rib tip that were delicious! I I ordered the smothered wings that came with rice + gravy, and two sides (I got turkey collard greens and mac and cheese) with a cornbread. I also got an order of deep fried country rib tips with spicy bbq sauce on the side and let me tell you I WILL BE BACK. Everything was SO delicious and well prepared. The price is great for the amount of food given. I have no bad things to say. Im upset I’m just now discovering this place after being in the area for over a year. I definitely will be back! Thank you BBQ Johnson and Cookie for such a pleasant experience !!!

Hidden gem! Good soul food is hard to find, but this spot had me back twice in a month! The vibe is perfect — great music, friendly staff, and they even gave me samples. I am a sucker for GREAT BBQ and calling this food AMAZING is an understatement. First Let’s start with the exceptional customer service with a southern hospitality vibe which was so welcoming. The chef was awesome enough to let me taste test of few items and it was love at first bite. I ordered a half pan of ribs, (2) Lg Mac N Cheese, (2) Lg Candied Yams, (2) Collard Greens and the order came with cornbread and slices with of white bread to soak up all the juicy bbq flavors of the rib tips. This literally put me in a very happy food coma lol. If I could give this place 10 stars I would. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place and consider myself a new regular/repeat customer.

I’m not from Illinois but I wanted to write in to say how wonderful this place is. Great food that reminds me of home, and plenty of it. The people here are incredibly friendly and kind with great souls. If you are into this kind of food at all, you have to give this place a try. I’ll be going out of my way to visit here if I’m ever back this way.

All sandwich meals are regular meals that include fries and sandwich bread for you to make your own sandwich (had never seen this before). The dessert is from Mama Lu’s and it’s charged separately. I spent $96 and didn’t find the value. Customer service let allot to be desired. I was the only customer there at the time and waited 20-35 minutes for my order.
Limited parking. Careful pulling out on Sheridan Road, extremely busy. If you want original style ribs go to Hillary’s on Lewis.

I decided to check out their new location after having nothing but great experiences with Honey Bay’s at their old Belvidere location in Waukegan, and I am glad that I did! I called in my order ahead of time and the lady on the phone was incredibly friendly. When I came in to pick up my order I was greeted by name when I walked through the door.
My food was delicious! I ordered the rib tip dinner with an additional hot link and everything was tasty. The hot link had a wonderful seasoning and snap to the sausage casing and made a great little sandwich with the white bread and coleslaw that came with my dinner. The rub tips themselves are definitely my favorite in the area. They had a great smoke flavor, perfect texture and had a ton of nice meaty pieces. The mild sauce was phenomenal as well, but if I had to nitpick ever so slightly I would’ve wanted just a tad more sauce.
If you’re in the mood for some fantastic food and would like to support some genuine and nice people who are passionate about their work, definitely give Honey Bay’s a visit! And save room for dessert. The banana cream pudding is worth it!

Food was great and better than I expected FIsh fried hard was tender on the inside, & crunchy crispy on the outside Sides Mac n cheese seasoned just right and yams were delicious I also had a small tip with sauce on the side and I loved it! It had a kind of spice to it, the sauce with a hint of kick to it… Fantastic
