We had a lovely evening at home State. So excited for their new location, conveniently located at Lincoln and Wilshire! The staff is so friendly, the service is quick. Order at the counter and grab a table. There’s plenty of room – both inside and on the patio. The queso a real highlight, great guacamole. Highly recommend any of the tacos with brisket too!

Brand new location in Jan 2026. Tacos (they’re more like mini burritos) are very good. We like all of the vegetarian options. Two per person was enough for us. Nice restaurant and patio. Dog friendly. Park behind restaurant or on street.

This place rocks. Great service, food and vibe. Jack behind the counter is very knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommend! Santa Monica needs more quality establishments like this.

The food is good and the service is very good and friendly. The tacos have more meat in them than I’ve ever seen.

Flour tortillas were good. The Migas and salsas were great. The chicken taco was solid but the trinity was pretty disappointing. A little pricey for what you get in my opinion but great service and the back patio is a nice feature. If you’re in the area def worth a try!

Ordered three tacos (the Trinity, Guadalupe, and Pecos) along with chips & queso from HomeState via DoorDash and was honestly blown away. All three tacos were great, but the Pecos was my favorite—the brisket was incredibly good and full of flavor.
The chips and queso were also excellent, and you can tell the chips are freshly made. My only minor downside was that the bottom of the chip bag was mostly crumbs, which made it hard to finish the queso.
Overall, a fantastic meal. I’ll definitely be back—next time I’ll eat in so I can enjoy everything fresh.

Well deserving of its rating. Very good brisket tacos and quesadillas, filling portions quality ingredients. Also the service is excellent quality. I will also add that the restroom is very clean; so rare in LA unfortunately.

I stopped into HomeState in Santa Monica recently, not chasing hype, just hungry and wanting something that wouldn’t disappoint. That’s kind of the unspoken promise of this place. You walk in expecting it to be solid, and it quietly delivers every single time. I ordered tacos (because of course), and they came out fast, hot, and exactly how they’re supposed to be. The tortillas are the star , soft, warm, clearly made with intention. You taste it immediately. Everything else just builds on that foundation instead of fighting it. The fillings are clean and well-seasoned. Not flashy. Not trying to reinvent anything. Just confident, balanced flavors that don’t need explanation. You can actually taste each component instead of everything blending into one vague “taco flavor.”
The queso is still dangerous in the best way. Simple, comforting, gone faster than expected. And the vibe? Casual, busy, relaxed. Feels like a neighborhood spot that happens to be very good at what it does, not a place chasing trends. What really stood out this time was how consistent it is. That’s rare. A lot of places ride momentum and slowly slide. HomeState feels like it knows exactly what lane it’s in, and stays there on purpose. It’s not trying to be the best taco in La La Land. It’s trying to be the place you’re always happy you went to. And honestly? That might be harder!
