A 20% tip was pre-added to the bill without disclosure and couldn’t be adjusted. You serve yourself water, get your own coffee, and walk to the counter to pay, so there isn’t really any service that warrants a 20% tip (you’re essentially paying the worker’s wage, as their receipt even says). The servers never checked in after dropping off the food, and the table wasn’t clean; there was still food stuck on it after staff wiped it down. They also seemed understaffed, as the bathroom was nasty . At this point, I’d rather just pick up the food myself. About half an hour after eating (my first and only meal of the day) my stomach didn’t feel great. I’m in agony hours after

Still a classic after re-opening!! the menu is slightly different from before closing in 2024 but it is largely the same place. yummy options aplenty. Note that gratuity is additionally charged automatically to support employees so menu prices don’t reflect the whole price – it’s worth it though! picture is the maple orange glazed chicken sandwich, my personal go to.

They make everything from scratch and these kind of diners are an anomaly nowadays. Four kinds of house made hot sauces, jam and seasonal specialties, gluten free toast, easy parking in the neighborhood, the most awesome staff, family-run, community-minded. What’s not to love?

Great diner. We had the scallion hash – a special – and corned beef hash. Pancakes were stuffed with blueberries and a great share. Very fluffy. Biscuits looked great.

One of the worst meals I’ve ever had then had the nerve to add a 20% tip on my bill without letting me know ahead of time! The doughy pancakes were advertised as the best pancakes ever and they were disgusting and the worst I ever had. The coffee cake was like dried corn bread. The potatoes look like they were scraped off the back of the flat top and whatever syrup they use was watery with a weird taste. I really don’t understand how this restaurant has 4.3 stars. I ordered a fruit bowl with pancakes and my partner ordered a 2 egg breakfast with sausage with a corn bread coffee extra and my bill came up to $48 somehow.

Home Fry Heaven is an understatement. Both of the meals I ordered were supremely comforting and obviously made with affection.
This is going to be our new breakfast spot!
Oh and.. the takeout containers (including the bag!) were all compostable. That was such a nice touch and really appreciated.

I was poking around the Plaza looking for a place to get a sando, when I overheard a couple of Pinhead Hipsters talking about their favorite Berkeley cafe. The leader of this two person posse said, and..without a doubt the Grunwald Café is the best in Berkeley, but his little yesboy called him on it, and declared the Homemade Cafe is the top cat in Berkeley! So…off I went. The chicken sando was indeed the best in Crazy Town! 5 ☆☆☆☆☆

I was so happy that Homemade was reopening. And then I went and ate and OH MY GOODNESS. It was so delicious. I had a sausage biscuit breakfast sandwich and it came with two fairly large sandwiches, so I brought one home. The biscuit was delish, service was lovely, coffee was good and plentiful. Kiddo had pancakes and I wanted to eat those too. Highly recommend and I will go back soon and often.

Nahhh the home fries were some of the best I’ve had. They know what they’re doing here. Cute breakfast spot with cool art hanging up.
The staff was awesome – I wanted any type of parfait or fruit and the cook made up a special thing for me to get that! Very grateful and appreciate the vibes here
