Get there early so you can try the banana pudding and cobblers. They were out by the time we arrived. My Brunswick stew was good. All the food was good not great. The restaurant is a an old time country restaurant. It’s a little tired and dirty on the inside but it kind of fits the vibe. The staff was super friendly and helpful.

No nonsense place to eat. If you like Southern cooking, you’ll like Home Plate. Plates won’t break the bank and will fill you up. They make your plate behind the counter or you can grab your food through the drive through as well.

I’ve had the fried chicken, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, banana pudding, and the sweet tea/lemonade. I’ve been here twice and surprised I didn’t eat here more often when I lived in the area. This place is a go to stop if I visit out that way.

It’s 2025. How hard is it to not serve food in toxic styrofoam? Styrofoam plates for people who are dining in is just ridiculously lazy. Also, I don’t see how this place gets so many good reviews, the baked chicken is filled with grease.
Skip this one, There’s plenty of other lesser known southern places that are actually good.

Home Plate brought back nostalgic memories from growing up in rural NC that I haven’t tasted in so long! The fried chicken was delicious and crispy, everything was well seasoned and the prices were shocking (in a good way)! My husband and I both got plates full of quality food and fountain drinks for under $25! No frills, but none needed. Food with love that reminds me of home. Definitely a regular spot for us from now on!

So good. So So good! We always go to the one in Butner, but found this Durham location today. I got the fried fish and it was crispy on the outside and creamy inside. Just perfect. We love the Home Plate

Food was amazing. Chicken was tender and falling off the bone. Mac and cheese on point and hushpuppies had just the right amount of sweetness. I also had blackeyed peas which were delicious. The staff was very accommodating and they had nice country charm. I felt welcomed and would definitely come back if I’m on this side of town.

The guys who work here are so sweet and polite! 5 stars for service.

Ordering a tiny challenge since the menu is not consistent. You’re better off coming inside, looking at the food display so you can choose your meat and two sides. Plus, you have a choice of a roll or hush puppies.

If you go through drive thru, you should already have an idea of what you want to order. The day I came, there were porkchops, fried fish, baked bbq chicken and fried chicken. Sides were various beans, deviled eggs, and other stuff I didn’t pay attention to (sorry!).

Dessert was banana pudding – $1.25. Can’t beat that! I can’t wait to return here.

Ps: the fish was not my favorite, as the texture was a little tougher than I expected. However, I came late afternoon so the fish may have been a later batch. I’m willing to try again.

The price, variety, and service make me want to return.

Good ole southern soul food. You can’t go wrong eating here. Fried Pork chop, devil’d eggs, blueberry cobbler, they’ve perfected it all.

Came two days in a row after starting a new job nearby. I’ve spent less money here and had more food that warmed my soul than I’ve had when eating out in months. Plates taste like someone’s granny was throwing down in the kitchen. I noticed a bit of change in how it tastes from my first meal (a tad more salt for the second time around in the green beans) but it made it feel that much more like homemade food. I had the baked chicken, green beans, hush puppies, and potato salad the first time. Second plate was fried flounder, green beans, hush puppies, mac and cheese, and potato salad. Everything tasted fresh, the right temperature, seasoned by the ancestors, and was quick to grab. The staff are warm and welcoming. The place gives church shack vibes where you might have a Sunday dinner before a second service, iykyk!

Will definitely be my go to when I don’t pack a lunch. So grateful to have come across this joint ❤️

I’ve always driven by this place and seen a line out the door so I decided to check it out. With all due respect, this is possibly the worst food I have ever tasted.

I got the cat fish dinner with mac and cheese and hush puppies. The fish was extremely dry and tasteless. You can tell it was frozen and fried. The mac and cheese was plain pasta covered with cheese. The hush pippues were probably the best part.

Frankly, I wouldn’t even take my worst enemy here.
