Riding the KT Trail when we happened upon Portland. Great small town dive bar. Beer was cold and the place was hopping. We happened to be there when they were having a shredded pork plate special for $15. Was pretty good.

The staff are extremely nice and very accommodating. Good beer selection. I had the pulled pork sandwich with LTOP & no bread (egg, soy & beef issues); it was good. The burgers are hand patties, which is great, but all the sides are battered and deep-fried (a rural favorite but so unhealthy and not an option for people with food issues). And, they smoke inside…. We were the only people in there.

We had the best burgers for lunch here on our Katy Trail ride. This was a great find just a block off the trail. Located between Hartsburg and McKittrick/Herrman. Only downside is that it was smokey. Evidently you can still smoke in restaurants in Missouri. Luckily only one person in there was smoking while we were there.

Best damn bar burger we’ve had in a LONG time! Beer was ice cold! We dropped in off the Katy Trail. We rode from Hermann to Portland, ate lunch and rode back. Be patient, there was only one lady running the show, but she was amazing! Great food. Cold beer. REALLY cool building! Enjoy!

It’s worth a stop if you are riding the Katy Trail. Their beer selection is limited but they do keep a really nice variety of snacks and non alcoholic beverages for cyclist passing through.
Support this little gem who is trying to support the Katy Trail riders/hikers.

Stopped for a late lunch post-ride on a Sunday. Very friendly and efficient staff. Food is good quality pub fare, with excellent crispy tots & cold beer.

We stopped into this bar/restaurant coming off the Katy Trail. It’s a great “old time” bar with a ton of bar and local decor. What really makes this bar is the waitress. We got there just around 11:30AM and their was one waitress working the bar. By time we left there was at least 20 and she was handling everyone. I think I lost 5lbs watching her, but she was so pleasant and fun it really made the experience. On top of all this, she made sure our water bottles were full on the way out. You just don’t find anyone working that hard for their customers these days. Five stars and a place you definitely need to stop in if you’re riding by on the Katy Trail!

They say they take “debit or cash only” but if you use debit, it’ll charge a transaction fee on top of your ticket. It’s like your bank thinks their payment terminal is an ATM.

It left a bad taste in my mouth, it feels mildly predatory. Why not just say “cash only” and then have an ATM outside the door or in the corner of the place? That would be more honest.

If you’re planning a trip on the trail, try to plan to go in to Hermann for food and drink instead of here
