I’m glad I found this place, you will be too. I had brisket from both sides and the bend was spectacular. I’m a point person myself, but the flat did not disappoint, and i might just order that next time especially if i get a chance to get the sausage. A whisper through the grapevine says it is hand crafted, and i can’t wait to try it. I also requested 2 bones. Those ribs did not disappoint, and my napkin stuck to my fingers, does it get any better? Being a meat guy, i did not try the sides on this visit, but did notice a sampler menu item. I’m intrigued.

My husband and I drove into Henderson on our weekend camping trip to Martin Creek Lake; we were delighted to find Holy Smokes on our night out! The restaurant is small but perfectly situated downtown. The owner greeted us and described some of the items on the menu. The brisket was tender and delicious BEFORE the sauce (which was just the right mix of sweet and spicy). We loved the sausage (pepper and cheese), as well. The beans are especially hearty— best I’ve had!— and the potato salad has great “body”— not mushy, and flavorful! It was a quiet night in downtown, but the ambiance of this space is perfect for a barbecue spot— dark wood and CLEAN, with a small stage that would make for neat entertainment. We will be back!

This is the best brisket I’ve ever tasted over my 60+ years. I totally agree with the other reviews that it “melts” in your mouth. First time I ever declined topping the brisket with BBQ sauce (sauce is excellent also) as it doesn’t need anything else. The ribs were meaty and just as delicious as the brisket. The owner was super friendly and thoughtful also. I will definitely be a repeat customer.

Holy Smokes is the Holy Grail!!!! The BBQ is top tier. The owner is amazing as well. We had a great conversation, even though we had just met him it felt like we’d been friends for years. This place will definitely be our new go to. 10/10

Edit- Went in today 11/29 beans were tough not done and brisket was tough not good FINALLY great Brisket and Ribs in Henderson TX. The brisket was juicy and had delicious bark barbecue sauce totally on point delicious!!!!

I have to say this is some of the best food I have had in a long time. The food has great flavor and the owner is very nice and pleasant to talk to. If you love BBQ you need to try Holy Smokes!! BBQ & Venue. We will definitely be back.

I stopped in on Wednesday 7/30/25 as a 1st time customer. I got a # of ribs, 1/2# of pulled pork and a 1/2# of brisket.
1st of all you were a great host. Very personable and informative. But most of all the food was AMAZING!!!! My husband says you have a customer for life. I can’t wait to try some more items from the menu. Thank you for the time and patience it takes to make it just fall apart.

Best pork ribs…potato salad…beans and mac n cheese of any bbq place I’ve ever been. And I’ve been to a bunch of them all over the country, including KC. It’s a very humble place, no frills just great food run by a guy with obvious passion for his craft. Reasonable prices too. Very highly recommended!
