Nestled in the black land prairie. You will find a down old hwy155 Holman’ Valley Steakhouse! What a find!!! The place harkens back to the German roots in the area, so for appetizers, we started with the fried bacon and the fried sausage and sauerkraut balls. Don’t say no until you try it. They’re amazing. But we are not in a hurry, thank you.
The salad took a wee bit longer to come out because they were “making the blue cheese” dressing ! Making ! My seafood Deluxe plate was about the best seafood plate I’ve ever had. The fried shrimp was very lightly dusted. It was just perfect and the fish had such a thin cornmeal crust. It wasn’t over breaded. It was perfect. The stuffed crab was top-notch with a lovely sweet crab meat forward. Pair that with mash potatoes, salad and perfectly done squash casserole and you can’t go wrong. Now to the steaks – done to order and generously sized. Very nice.
Now to desserts!!!!
These are mostly all home made! We chose the coconut buttermilk pie and the mudslide. Boy howdy!! Get ya some! OMG!!! So good. I won’t say more to not ruin the wonderfulness of their desserts.
We will definitely be back!!!!
*** This is such a local favorite *** reservations are recommended.

We are coming back here! We are started our meal with the Sauerkraut and Sausage Balls. Excellent! Great battered crust, moist inside and flavorful. Then I was surprised by my dinner salad. Ice cold and homemade croutons. The croutons were a fit for us. We had to share these out of a common bowl. The croutons disappeared. Then we had a couple Porterhouses and one Filet. (We ordered the last two Porters) All of our steaks were cooked perfectly and enjoyed every bite. My youngest son was already asking when we could come back since we don’t live close by. Then we had another surprise. That Buttermilk Pie, fresh from the oven. Perfect is all I can say. I’ll be placing an order for a whole pie a few days before out next visit!
The atmosphere is great. This place is Texas. It’s over 100 years old, has a porch and screen door. I’m sold. We’ll be back, save us three Porterhouses next time! It’s worth the drive!

The service at this place was great! Very friendly and helpful staff (they even secured us one of the last pieces of pie before it was sold out!)
The fried mushrooms were very juicy and a hefty portion for sharing. The steak’s selling point was the seasoning, they pack a lot of flavor into them.
Would recommend a visit for the food and the adjacent outdoor venue with live music looks like a ton of fun, even though we weren’t able to stay and participate.

We came to Holman Valley all the way from Katy, Texas. The food and service alone deserve a 10 out of 10, but the atmosphere is a plus. It gives Gruene Hall vibes, but with food.. Miss Wendy gave my father a tour of the dance hall where they occasionally have live music. I highly recommend this place, and I will definitely be back.

Location is off the beaten path, about 6 miles from Weimer and 13 miles from La Grange. This is a 100+ year old General Store that’s been converted into a restaurant and dance hall. Only open Thursday – Saturday for dinner and Sunday’s for lunch. The screen doors as you enter remind you of days gone by as do the latches on the bathroom doors. The have a good selection of wines and beers and the food reminds you of Grandma’s cooking. Look up on the chalk boards on the wall to see what soups, sides and desserts are being served. The chicken fried steak is delicious as was everything we tried. A must try is the Sausage Sauerkraut Balls and if you like yellow squash – the squash casserole will hit the spot. The prices are reasonable and the service is good. The owner swings through the dining room ever so often to make sure her guests are being taken care of. It looks like she oversees the kitchen as well. Almost forgot, the Buttermilk Pie is just like Grandma’s too, crust and filling! Enjoy & Bon Appetit!

Hidden gem outside of La Grange! The best sides and desserts that rotate, so be sure to check out the board for what’s on the menu that night! Bottles of wine are reasonably priced. If you’re coming during a busy time, pack your patience and order an appetizer. Friendly staff and cozy country environment. 10/10 always recommend when family and friends come into town to visit!

First visit a few years back was the steak I’ve ever had… my last visit not so much. Poor cut a little overcooked and a very little seasoning. Salad dressing tasted water down and the sides seemed to old.

First time there and it was a bust. Took an hour and a half to get our meal. My son ordered a 10 oz ribeye when we finally got our food his steak was about a quarter of an inch thick looked like a chicken fried steak without the breading. Chef was too busy to come out and address the issue. Won’t be back
