SPECIAL SECRET SCOOP EXCLUSIVE @ HOLLYWOOD HEROES AND SUBS

All right, I’m letting you in on a secret… Hollywood Heroes & Subs is an outstanding sub shop, and they have a new OFF MENU SECRET SUB, that has only been posted about a few times. I went to try it out and I’m here to report back that it is indeed worthy of the try.

Introducing…
THE BRONX TALE

This sucker is HEFTY and stacked with capicola, ham, pepperoni, bologna, and genoa salami. The meats were crisped up around the edges which contrasted the fresh vegetables (I ordered it all the way) so well. The bread was so fresh and locally sourced. What really made this stand out is that the sub was not at all soggy!!!

I’m sure you’ve heard it here before, but I’m here to tell you again, Hollywood Heroes & Subs is the place to go if you’re looking for an outstanding sub sandwich. This sub shop is really unassuming and tucked away in an office building in Southside. But trust me, you’ll wanna pull out the GPS and check this place out.

Bonus points if you order “The Bronx Tale”

I ordered the Towering Inferno combo with a drink and chips. Totally worth it!

The sandwich was really good with lots of flavor, and I loved the menu’s low-carb options.

What impressed me most was the service. When I arrived they were already closed and sitting in the parking lot, but the owner Kevin actually reopened the shop just to make me a sandwich. That level of customer care is rare these days! The kids working there were also very friendly and respectful.

Great food and even better people

I’ll definitely be back!

Awesome spot in a not so usual building to eat at, we came in and got the towering inferno and the bada bing. Both are amazing and we excited to try the rest of the menu. Movie posters on the walls and super hero deco on the shelf, and both regular tables and booths to sit at plus some outdoor seating. The owner had great enjoy and joked with us while he made our sandwiches, definitely a better experience then ive ever gotten at the normal sub shops around jacksonville. Highly recommend10/10

There is a lot to like at Hollywood Heroes and subs, I mean a lot, like a bunch, like a host, like a parlay.

First, as soon as you enter, you’re most likely gonna get a big hello from the owner, who clearly enjoys his work. The second thing you’ll notice is that the dining room and kitchen area are both really clean and there are all these cool movie posters on the wall.

Why did he use the name Hollywood Heroes? Well, the owner lived in Jacksonville and opened up several of the Larry’s giant sub locations, then he sold them and moved to LA became an actor for the next 25 years. When it came time to raise his daughter (I think, maybe his son) he decided he wanted to come back to Florida to give her a different upbringing than she would get on the West Coast.

He chose the menu, and it is layered with some phenomenal choices. Plus he will ask you exactly what you want on it, and because I ate inside and talked to him while he was in a slow spot, he even gave me a free drink. Regardless, you can tell he really enjoys his customers.

Well, if you’ve seen any of my reviews, you know this is a portrait where I describe the food . Since I was dining by myself, I can only give you one item that I tried.

Sweet Tea – good, great, made with Southern Charm.
Lazer – the sandwich was on the hot side of the menu, and it was fantastic. Layered with ham, turkey, and top with provolone cheese. I also added lettuce and tomato, some mayo and I was in love.

Open 10AM mornings till 8:00 in the evenings and the food is affordable, personable and is made by a real live celebrity from LA.

I wonder if he’s dated a Kardashian?

Been wanting to try this place for a while since they opened up brick & mortar sub shop after running their truck for a while.
I promise I’m not being biased but this is a top-notch sub. (Think of Larry’s in their prime and light years better than Firehouse). The bread is perfection (he gets it from village bread Cafe) And the way they slice the meat is . Beverly made my sandwich and she did an excellent job.
Great Central location in the southpoint area.

Such kind people—friendly, warm, and welcoming. Kevin was especially thoughtful. They gave a great recommendation, and I got the Bada Bing, which was absolutely delicious. It had the perfect amount of everything. I really enjoyed being there; the place had wonderful energy.

This place has been on my “must-try” list since this past summer! After seeing fellow Jax Elite James D’s glowing review here on Yelp and a new, fun and quirky Jax foodie share it on Hollywood Hero’s Instagram page (@celsjax), I was sold. I literally hopped in the car and drove over.
I’m actually really glad we came in for dinner instead of lunch. My boyfriend and I got to chat with Kevin (the owner), who’s super conversational and friendly — we both enjoyed that a lot. I was told lunch can get insanely busy, so going at dinner time was nice. It gave us a chance to get a little one-on-one menu rundown (which subs are the most popular, which ones are Kevin’s personal faves, etc.).
The shop is tucked slightly off the beaten path, but honestly? I kinda like it that way. It gives it that hidden-gem vibe.

I ordered the Towering Inferno, which has “all the hot meats.” As someone who loves medium-to-hot spice, this one hit that perfect middle ground — flavorful with just enough kick without being overwhelming. Even if you enjoy more of a mild spice – you could handle this sub. I picked exactly the sub I thought I’d love… and boy, did I ever. Next time I’ll go for the 12-inch instead of the 6 so I can save half for the next day.

Prices here are super reasonable, especially for Jax. I grabbed jalapeño kettle chips and a soda from the fridge, while my better half went for a hot 6-inch “Leading Man” sub with Doritos and a Coke Zero.
We both loved our subs so much we had to order a third one to split (I know, total BigBacks over here). We tried a cold sub this time — the Bada Bing — and it was just as delicious.
All three subs were fantastic, but I’m definitely more of a hot sandwich girl, so the Towering Inferno still takes the crown for me. It has its own special sauce — tangy with a little kick — that really ties it all together.

Can’t recommend this place enough. Hidden gem status: confirmed.
Kevin is amazing; he’s expecting another girl with his lovely wife so please show him some extra love with their new baby on the way this month (November 2025)

TRY THESE SUBS. I stumbled across the place by chance and loved everything about it. The owner was very nice and had pride in his product as well as the customers experience. I tried the “ love the drake “ and the “ towering inferno “. Absolutely delicious and 1000% plan on making this one of my go to places. 5 Stars

I just had the best lunch here!
The Towering Inferno was absolutely incredible—fresh ingredients, amazing flavor, and the bread was top-notch. This is hands down my new favorite Jax sub shop! The owner makes you feel welcomed the moment you walk in, and the whole place has a great vibe. Thank you, Kevin!”
