I had the pleasure of assisting my mom and uncle for a day and they told me they wanted lunch from the Hollywood Fish Market. The best way I can explain this shot is a great soul food and fish spot placed right in the heart of North Memphis. I had meatloaf with spaghetti and Mac and cheese. All meals came with a pancake size of hot water cornbread. The food was amazing and tasted like I was at an old school Sunday family dinner. Everything was fresh and seasoned perfectly. The staff was super courteous and patient with my elder mom and uncle. I’ll most definitely be back.

Each time I have purchased fish it was fresh and in large quantities. Every two weeks my daughter wants catfish and big bone buffalo. There’s a lot of meat on the big bone buffalo

I was so disappointed with my experience today at Hollywood Fish Market. I have patronized the restaurant multiple times over the years, but today the customer service was horrible and shows that the owners really lack basic respect and appreciation for their customers. They opened almost 20 minutes late today and had customers standing outside in 90 degree heat to keep their place in line when the owner could have let the customers come inside to wait while they brought out the rest of the food.
Some customers also had to wait about another 10 minutes for dressing, which they only serve on Sundays. No one from the business apologized for opening late or offered a discount/free drink or anything to the handful of waiting customers who were inconvenienced. In addition, this business charges almost $15 a plate, but the portion sizes they offer are so small for that price. Even the cranberry sauce they offer for the dressing is such a small amount. They also charge $4.25 for a very small portion of any side you order that’s not included in a plate meal. There’s just no reason to be that stingy when the side portions included with the plates are already minimal. I just felt compelled to write a review because if they actually care to improve the customer’s experience, maybe honest feedback will help these business owners/managers do better and give more appreciation to people who have helped them stay in business all these years. I would also like to see a lot of black businesses in general just stop doing the bare minimum, taking their customers for granted. Overall, this business’s professionalism could be a lot better and being a little more generous with food portions is very unlikely to cause the business to shut down. Showing genuine appreciation and serving people the way you would want to be served as a customer would take your business a lot further than prioritizing profit over treating customers with more decency.

Oxtails were so good! We ordered Big Bone Buffalo Dinner, Fried Chicken, Vegetable Plate, and Baked Chicken Dinner! No complaints!! The area is not desirable, but the food is great!

The 1st time I went there the food was delicious. Unfortunately the last time I went the fish was CLEARLY old, hard, over cooked and greasy. I called to let them know that the container was melted from being in the microwave and the woman said they didn’t have a microwave. She claimed that happens when the fish is really hot. That makes NO sense because the fish burned through the thick container but NOT the thin plastic bag. Also I couldn’t smell the fish and when fish is freshly fried you can smell it. I’ll never go back there again! They have lost 2 customers!

I have been craving some Big Bone Buffalo fish for a while. I kept missing it on the food truck at work. Decided to come here and get a dinner to satisfy my craving. This place has been here for years and the good food is why.

The food is convenient. However, I believe he’s the owner’s son that was very rude to me. I understand he may have been exhausted because it was late and they were closing, soon. I looked at the food bar and they had a few selections.
When I walked in he looked at me and kept working as if I wasn’t there. I was about to ask a question but he act like I was about to bother him. I said, “that’s OK” and began to walk out. He said, “I know it is” very rudely. Haven’t been back since and not going!!!
Wish I could take my star back but forced to choose it to share my unpleasant experience.

Angela takes your order. She’s a sweetheart. The food is crazy delicious. Fresh fish! Is it an upscale fancy restaurant? No. It’s a neighborhood staple that always has a line of hungry customers. Great Memphis treasure!! Grabbing dinner there today!

I had the oxtail dinner and OMG, probably the best tasting soul dish I’ve had. People are super friendly and appreciative of your business.
I will try their buffalo fish next time.
