There’s quite some extremes in recent reviews.
There’s no part in me that believes (based on my one experience) this is outstanding nor is atrocious.
It is a smaller (selection size) buffet, yet not the smallest I’ve tried. The seating area is large, and it is pretty popular.
The lady at the front seems to be the most contentious part of every review. I can see why. She does have a strong accent so maybe it’s hard for general Americans to understand. The call she was on when I entered she was speaking a little forcefully.. the call she was on while I was eating she seemed courteous & polite.
The food is mostly average. I tried a little of everything. The General Tso chicken was the best of what I had. The fried rice could have been a little better, esp the chicken in it… but it is what it is. The sweet and sour chicken was the 2nd best. The wings/drumsticks were alright, a little dry but there is sauce.
The ideal price point would be $10-12. The waiter said (I forgot to really check the bill – I just saw the total) it’s $15.50. It came out to $17.03… I don’t know how the tax works on that. If this was $12, this would be much better. If this was a $10 buffet (maybe those don’t exist anymore? I am back in the US after a 10 yr stay in Asia), this would be one of the best, despite me personally not totally liking most of it. I still found enough to enjoy it.

We had heard this place was good and finally tried it today. Wow, the food was so very good! We ordered there for take out and waited for only about 5 minutes. We ordered pot stickers, egg rolls, chicken lo mein, Singapore rice noodles – all of which was delicious. The service was fast and the employees were very friendly. We will definitely return!

I’ve been coming to HoHo Gourmet since I was in diapers. Best Chinese food restaurant in Minnesota. The chicken fried rice here is simply unmatched. I usually get the chicken fried rice but this time I had the four Treasure with white rice, cream cheese wontons, and a pork egg roll. All delicious. Consistently amazing staff, uniquely delicious food, reasonable prices, and the kind of place you’ll return to for decades. They have a decent buffet as well. If it’s your first time, the chicken fried rice is a must. The rest of the menu is just as good too and worth exploring on future visits. Hard to condense 30+ years of eating here into a short review. Fantastic place!

Terrific flavor. Very small buffet. $15 lunch on Saturday.
The Vegetable Beef (with Broccoli) had amazing flavor and was my favorite. The Hot Hot Chicken was spicy and also had an amazing flavor.
The wings were great as was the fried rice. I didn’t care for any of the breaded type dishes including the General Tao’s or Sweet and Sour Chicken. I’m my opinion too much batter and too sweet.
I liked the bright seating area in the front inside. They were generally pretty busy and at times had trouble keeping the buffet stocked. Food did seem fresh.

Decent, Americanized Chinese food. Pork friend rice was absolutely delicious. . Egg rolls good. We ordered the sesame chicken off a recommendation from another review. We didn’t care for the flavor of the sesame chicken…it wasn’t bad, but just had a unique, smokey flavor that was different than the usual.
Very attentive service and the restaurant seemed very clean and organized. We enjoyed our dinner

2/5/25 12:30pm. We had the buffet. Busy. Limited selection, but what we like. Fresh and full of flavor. 2 spicey hot items. General Tao chicken was BBQ spicey hot red colored. No soup, fish, shrimp or ice cream. Higher priced than we are used to. Didn’t see senior discount. Impressive hard working staff, cleaning, pulling dirty plates and serving. No standing around. Daily special board was in Chinese & English. Can also order off menu. Had egg drop soup to go.. Located near SunRay, out of our normal territory. Profile: Mixture of people young, old, white, black, Hispanic and Asian. Workers to laymen. Some eat and go while others visit extensively. Busy place yet pleasant.

Service was great. We order 4 dishes; beef chow fun, beef steak, chicken fried rice and BBQ duck. All the dishes were delicious and cooked to perfection. The only dish that needs improvement is the chicken fried rice. It was very plain and the chicken did not taste like chicken…more like tofu. Decor needs update. The menu definitely needs an update. Overall Food and service was good.

Amazing food! Ordered the Wontons, chicken wings, beef with garlic sauce and combination plate. If you come and dine in definitely order their chicken wings. They are so delicious and crunchy. Plus the food was seasoned very well and very tasty. One of the best Asian restaurants in St. Paul for authenticity. They are usually always busy so wait going to be awhile due to high demand of food for online orders and dine in.

If I could give this place less than one star I would. The lady at the front desk was extremely rude. I paid about $30 for my food and had to almost beg for some sauce for my chicken. When I asked for some sweet and sour sauce the lady began yelling and became aggressive. It’s clear this place is not use to serving minorities based on the customer’s coming in and out. Do not waste your time and money with this place. The rude lady on the phone in the front is going to run this business into the ground with her behavior.
