Let’s start with the waitstaff and service team — absolute pros. Johnny-on-the-spot doesn’t even cover it. We had a large party, and they still got us seated smoothly, without stress or side-eye (which, let’s be honest, is rare).
As guests arrived at different times, the staff checked in, offered cocktails and appetizers, and made sure everyone felt taken care of instead of “waiting awkwardly by the door.” That alone set the tone.
The food? Incredible.
The atmosphere? Classic, warm, and exactly what you want in a place like this.
The menu is extensive without being overwhelming — fantastic cuts of meat, solid sides, fresh salads, and cocktails that clearly aren’t an afterthought. Speaking of cocktails and wine… the selection is excellent, and yes — even the Hog’s Breath wines were surprisingly good. Recommended favorites were on point, which we always appreciate.
This is one of those places that feels like a destination and a reliable favorite at the same time.
We’ll absolutely be back the next time we’re in town — no hesitation.
(And yes, we’re already talking about what we’ll order next.)

Our experienced in this placed goes beyond our expectation. We loved the place and knowing that it used to be Clint Eastwood place is a plus. We love the coziness of this place and the vibe. All of its Clint’s movie posters and music was really a treat. It makes us feel that we are in a different place. Our food was great and our server, she is very kind and very respectful and always there to ask if we are in need of any help and always making sure that our stay and food is great and she smiles a lot. She is very lovely and sweet so that is a plus to this experienced the only downside is our receptionist. When we got there the receptionist is the one who seated us. I am not complaining but ourexperienced to her is not welcoming, i don’t know if that is her personality or maybe she is just having a rough day thats why she sounds annoyed and made us feel that we are not welcome. The moment she received us, from the moment she asked us where do we want to sit down, “ outside or inside” all the way when she seated us, her tone is not very welcoming and sounds like she is annoyed to have us. Which is the least thing we want to experienced in a well known restaurant. We drove all the way from bay area to experienced this place because we are hearing a lot of great things about it. We could give 5 star to this place but due to unwelcoming start we will just leave 4 and that is because of our server who made us feel the other way around and the food that we had.

I cannot say enough positive things about our experience! This was our first time and the presentation of the restaurant began as we walked down the the alley all a glow with twinkle lights and then the grand reveal as we descended the steps into the garden dining area nestled between cozy cottages, outdoor fireplace, and seating among the trees. The staff were friendly, helpful and very attentive. I had the salmon which was cooked to perfection! The seasoning was flavorful without being too spicy. We finished the evening with a warm brownie birthday treat! This is a must visit!

Hog’s was highly recommended to us. The outdoor patio is beautiful with both regular tables and high tops, and the big tree in the center reminded me of a restaurant I once visited in Mexico. It was a quiet Thursday night, and we chose a spot near a heat lamp since it was a bit chilly. It took the staff a little while to figure out who would be taking our order, and they ended up mixing up my friend’s dish without following up. I ordered the Mediterranean salad, which was good. The fresh sourdough bread was excellent, and they offer a variety of flavors. There appears to be an indoor dining room and a separate bar as well. The Clint Eastwood movie posters are displayed since the restaurant used to belong to him before he sold it.

My husband had come here in the late 70s and said that he hoped the food had gotten better because the only thing to recommend the place was the Clint Eastwood memorabilia.
I am happy to report that this is one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. The food was amazing and the service was outstanding.
The waitstaff worked as a team … beginning with the gracious welcome of the lady at the reception counter (I’m sorry I did not get the name, but she was amazing) to our server Hector, and the rest of the team who made sure that we had everything we needed, including our beverages topped off and bringing us a to go box.
Hubby had Sandabs with a cream sauce and capers, we shared Szechuan chicken lettuce wraps, I had the gnocchi with mushrooms and we had a lovely gelato for dessert.
Food was delicious and top notch and I loved the bread that was available as well.
We will certainly be coming back. The Clint Eastwood decor was a lot of fun and added to the ambience.

Lovely place but so disappointing compared to the mystique. My seat was dirty and the table was gorgeous but there was a big sticky stain, right where I put my arm and it ultimately left a stain on my jacket. The bun for the burger is too small and soft and you end up with a gooey mess. The turkey club had a similar integrity issue, ultimately needing a knife and fork to eat it. The fish and chips were overly salted and the breading was tasty but way too thick. The tartar sauce was good, but slaw was way too gooey with 50% of it being the mayo and there was no crunch or flavor to it. The final nail in the coffin for me is that they don’t carry Coca-Cola products. All they have is Pepsi. I must say that the shoestring french fries are absolutely spectacular.

My Mom and I went for Sunday Brunch and had a great experience. The atmosphere is welcoming and warm. There are 3-4 outdoor fireplaces and living edge tables. The food was excellent. My Mom had the Louise Salad and I had the beef sliders with fries. Those were the best sliders I’ve ever had. The service was good but not extraordinary. We will definitely go back!

A cool dog friendly restaurant we’ve been to many times. The patio is an inviting environment to hang.
We appreciated the dog dish and water for the pup.
The crab cakes I got were tasty and nicely breaded and cooked.

The Hog’s Breath Inn, nestled in the very heart of Carmel and once owned by the renowned Clint Eastwood, is a step above excellence. Its charm lies not only in the rustic, inviting atmosphere, but also in the food—crafted with a dedication that delights every taste bud. The staff move with ease among guests, mingling as though everyone were old friends, and on the night I visited, the joy was multiplied by a wedding reception in full swing. Drinks flowed, laughter sparkled, and the air was saturated with the happiness of the soon-to-be newlyweds—a celebration that seemed to embrace us all.
