Hofbrau is one of Morro Bay’s oldest family-owned eateries. We’ve been serving mouthwatering meals on the Embarcadero for 50 years. We believe an epic meal is even better while having a great conversation with friends and family and overlooking the bay. You know us for our hand-carved roast beef, your parents probably knew us for it as well. Even your grandparents may have enjoyed a hand-carved roast beef sandwich here. But you don’t want to miss our other French dips, seafood sandwiches, seafood and chips, juicy burgers, or seasonal specials. Loved this place! The staff here are super friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious, really good quality, and the portions were just right.

This is a great little establishment to stop by and grab a quick bite. The roast beef french dip sandwich is excellent and very filling. The cheeseburgers are cooked to order and very tasty. The fries are cooked crispy and the onion rings are very good. The person who took the order is very sweet and helpful. It’s a place where you walk in and order before sitting. We’ve been here a couple of times and inside is always clean and the tables are wiped down. They do have an outside area to sit but it can be chilly at times. Overall this is a go to place for lunch and even dinner after a long day (when you don’t feel like waiting 45 min to be seated). elsewhere. .

Hofbrau in Morro Bay is one of our go-to spots, especially for their French dip sandwiches—they’re absolutely to die for! The chicken club is another favorite, and the kids always enjoy the burgers and other entrees. The fries are delicious as well! We love sitting out on the enclosed patio where we can stay out of the wind while taking in the view of the boats and Morro Rock. The line might seem long and out the door at first glance, but it’s fast, efficient, and the staff are always friendly. They also have a nice selection of beers to go with your meal. Great food, great view, great vibe—highly recommend!

The clam chowder was so so, had some flour chunk in it, but it was nice and hot and it was quick service. Nice patio dining with the harbor view. My friend has been here before and said the sandwiches were really good. I’ll have to try that next.

I love the Hofbrau. It never disappoints. The food is great quality, the service is very kind and the view is of the bay and Morro Rock. For around $30 I got a big, meaty sandwich, fries and a beer. I took half home and they gave me a large to-go container of au jus. So I got two meals out of it. My husband ate his whole sandwich. We both got the County Jail sandwich which has roast beef and pastrami. It came with au jus. So yummy. And I like the beer choices on tap.

I’ve been there twice so far and both times were exceptional. I ate their fish and chips and clam chowder, as well as had a German beer. The fish and chips had a really nice crisp to them and were perfectly prepared both times. They have good fries, and their clam chowder is very good. This is my current favorite place in Morro bay. Their pricing is also excellent. You’re able to get fish and chips and a side of clam chowder for around 18 bucks when I went there, April 2025. They also have wonderful patio seating that has a glass wind blocker

Such a staple in MB. Despite having lived here on the coast for over 20 years I haven’t really been back here since when I first moved here. Finally got around to coming back after recommending it to a few people. So glad I did, this place has stood the test of time for a reason, the food is good, it is affordable and they are quick. Fries are great too. While I didn’t have their signature hand carved beef, I will certainly be sure to come back soon for it and bring my recently transplanted parents as they are big fans of roast beef. Looking forward to coming here more regularly instead of just recommending it to others visiting. The patio is always a great spot to hang out and watch the boats, sea lions and seagulls as well as have our dog. It is always fun to watch them freshly slice the meat off of the roast.

Tried the French Dip Sandwich — The sandwich itself was solid. Great bread-to-meat ratio, with soft, fresh bread and incredibly tender meat. I wasn’t a fan of the au jus dip — it tasted pretty salty, though I’m not sure if that’s how it’s supposed to be. Either way, it just wasn’t for me. I’d honestly rather enjoy the sandwich on its own without the dip.
Service was great — the staff was nice, friendly, and made the place feel really inviting. That kind of warmth always makes the experience better, even if the food isn’t a perfect match for your taste.
