Ho Wah Chinese Restaurant

  4.1 – 382 reviews  $ • Chinese restaurant

Opened in 1989, Ho Wah Sterling Heights has been constantly improving their variety of dishes. They are a family-owned and family-operated restaurant, with a main chef who has over twenty years of experience. Appetizers such as the potsticker and soups like the wonton soup are all homemade. Ho Wah tries to accommodate everyone’s tastes with entrees that range from sweet and sour to hot and spicy. Even though carry-out orders are usually completed within ten minutes, Ho Wah still prepares its dishes the traditional way. Dishes are prepared and cooked whenever they are ordered, and they place emphasis on the freshness of their foods. This restaurant does not use any frozen vegetables, and all sauces are made fresh with each dish.

Roomy, easygoing environment for stir fries, lo mein, egg foo yong & other Chinese classics.

Oh wow! Wow! I’m so speechless. I seen this on Google with a good review so I figured I’d try it out. They had something called Garlic Fried Chicken which I never tried but had interest in trying, ordered a Chicken and Broccoli as a backup in case I didn’t like it. I arrived 5 minutes early and my food was ready. Staff was very sweet and polite. My food was nice and hot when I got home. I took a few pictures for Google then dug my fork in….and wow. The chicken was breaded to perfection, there was a generous amount of savory sauce, the egg roll was by far one of the best I’ve had. Everything about this meal was just exquisite. I don’t know what culinary school their chef went to but they deserve to be up there with Oxford.

I’ve been coming here for over 15 years because I considered it the best Chinese food around. Ever since Covid they have steadily gone downhill. The food is horrible at this point. The vegetables, in the general tso were cooked to the point of being inedible. The chicken in both the sweet and sour, and general tso, was covered in moist slimy breading with dried chicken chunks underneath. They could at least put the sauce in a separate container so it doesn’t ruin the breading on the drive home. The “fried rice” showed no signs of being fried. It looked like they tossed white rice with some sort of sauce and called it a day. $45 in and the only thing worth eating was the chicken gai kow. Not even the fortune cookies were worth eating. They were stale. They also packaged everything in a way that cracked a container and leaked general tso sauce all over the rest of the containers. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere from now on.

Not the worse I’ve had. That being said, didn’t taste much like Chinese. The sauce was watery even for the sesame chicken. The egg rolls are the best. Everything tasted fresh, but the breaded chicken was soggy

I’ve been going to this Chinese restaurant for over 25 years, and they still have the same great food. I’m a little disappointed that they no longer have dining in options since Covid, but the high quality of food is still there, so they are worth going to for carryout.

This place was recommended to me by a friend and I thought the food was really good and worth the 8 mile drive. I generally order the General Tso chicken all the time but over the last year this place has really went down. Each time I’ve ordered it just gets worse but today was the last straw because I will not pay for 2 day old chicken. So I will be taking my business somewhere else that offers freshly cooked food.
