Our burgers were delicious, but all the reviews said how friendly and welcoming the staff was and that was NOT our experience at all. We aren’t needy or fussy customers, but we were ignored to the point we actually wondered if we’d died in the train tunnels on the bike trail and just didn’t realize we were only ghosts. Two staff were great — a girl about 8-10 years old who gave us menus as we came in, and a young brunette who was doing most of the cooking. They were well-staffed — we could see those 2, plus a lady in a visor, another older woman, and a male and female bartender. The bar side was busy when we first arrived but cleared out about 15 min later and the place was quiet. On the dining side, we eventually went up to the bar to order as no one came to us. At various times while we ate, three staff members stood directly in front of us at the bar and not one even acknowledged we existed. I started to tell visor lady (again, right in front of me at the bar) the food was good and she turned away mid-sentence. We actually laughed at this point! Our ketchup was empty and we waved repeatedly to visor lady who was leaning on the bar, and she actively avoided eye contact but did say goodbye to some locals that were leaving. I walked down there to ask for ketchup, and she walked away as I approached. I just took one I saw by the kitchen. No one asked if we wanted another drink. No one brought the bill. We finally stood at the bar with credit card in hand and still no acknowledgement despite all the staff being only 10-12 feet away. (The young girl was cooking some to-go orders, so at least she was busy.) We took turns with one standing and holding the CC and the other using the restroom, but still no one came near. About the time we were discussing how to go about leaving, the female bartender whom we’d previously not had any contact with stood about10 feet away and shouted “That’ll be $25.50!” I wasn’t sure it was directed towards us. She yelled it again. I just raised the CC higher so she’d realize someone would have to approach us. We still tipped. But considering how quiet and well-staffed the place was, the whole experience was just bizarre. On the drive home we decided we did not, in fact, die in the tunnels as we were given cheeseburgers.

While camping at the Village campground in Wilton this weekend we stopped in at the Hitching Post for a drink and food on Saturday while the heavy rains hung around. We met great people, made some new friends ate tasty wings and the best homemade Chicken Alfredo with mushroom pizza. We hung around enjoying the company of Theresa, Hank and Patty. Thanks for the good conversations and great drinks. I personally enjoyed Hank’s fresh squeezed oj with the LaCrosse distilled Vodka…just a bit salty. Thanks Linda & Rick Froehlich
