I tried the rolls at the Hissho Sushi located in Raleigh/ Durham Airport. I’m not exaggerating that it was one of the worst sushi I’ve had in my life. The rolls may look good in the picture but the taste was not good. I couldn’t eat more than two pieces.

I’ve gotten grocery store sushi a few times and never been super impressed. This one was the worst. The spicy shrimp roll should have been called The Spicy Zucchini Roll. It had a huge chunk of raw zucchini, way too much rice, and few crumbs of finely diced pinkish white meat which was probably shrimp but there wasn’t enough in there to notice the flavor of it. If I had deconstructed the roll i doubt there was a tablespoon of the shrimp meat in the entire thing. The predominant flavor of this roll came from the bland white rice. The dab of wasabi & few slices of ginger on the tray was about 1/4 of the amount that should be served with a roll and they both looked like they had seen their better days. Thanks Hissho, you have taught me a valuable lesson. Good sushi ain’t cheap and cheap sushi ain’t good.

For airport sushi, Hissho Sushi at Charlotte Douglas International Airport does a decent job, but it’s nothing particularly memorable. The restaurant is conveniently located in a bright, open space between terminals B & C making it an easy stop for travelers with some time to kill.
The menu offers a solid selection of rolls, nigiri, and sashimi, with some creative combinations. I went with a mixed plate featuring nigiri and one of their specialty rolls, Crown Town roll, which had a nice presentation with crispy toppings and drizzles of sauce. The fish was fresh enough for an airport setting, but the freshness didn’t particularly stand out—pretty standard sushi without anything that made it exceptional.
The atmosphere is typical for an airport dining experience—functional but not particularly inviting. Service was efficient, which is a plus for travelers on a schedule. Prices are a bit high, but that’s to be expected in an airport setting.
Overall, Hissho Sushi is a reasonable choice if you’re desperately craving sushi while passing through CLT, but it’s not a place I’d go out of my way to visit, unless stuck in CLT airport for a few hours.

⭐ 1-Star Review: Completely Unacceptable Treatment
I had a deeply disappointing experience at Hissho Sushi in the NC airport. I ordered a sushi roll to go, but after receiving it, I decided I would prefer to sit down and eat. The moment I attempted to do so, the staff abruptly and rudely shooed me away in a disrespectful manner.
There was absolutely no reason to treat a paying customer this way. Instead of communicating politely or explaining any seating policy, the staff chose to speak and gesture at me as if I was an inconvenience. It was unprofessional, unnecessary, and honestly embarrassing.
Airport dining is already stressful, and basic courtesy should be the minimum standard. Unfortunately, this location failed to deliver even that. I will not be returning, and I hope management takes appropriate steps to improve customer service and staff training.

Food, service, and atmosphere got 4 stars but:
I overheard the sushi chefs speaking a non- Japanese language. They do not carry edamame. A few beers on tap but no Japanese beer on tap. Bottled and canned Japanese beer in the USA is crap, stale and not made in Japan There are no prices on beers or cocktails. Speaking of prices, they are too high. They do not include the Kanji character for “Hissho”.

Server was amazing she was very attentive! Sashimi was fresh and the beer was cold after numerous issues with flights and delays the food was exactly what I needed! Good conversations with the around. Prices well they are airport prices. $26 for 9 pcs sashimi $12 for draft. Have a good selection of sushi rolls, miso soup and seaweed salad. Have a 4 on atmosphere because of the loud music they were playing. Kinda much with TVs and so many people walking by.

Absolutely exhausted and slightly concussed but when I say this sushi was superb, I mean it. The server was so sweet and was able to put our food order in right as she was leaving and stayed to get it to us. The ingredients tasted fresh (yes, including the rice).

Got the vegan roll because it was the cheapest option. The sushi was good, but for some reason the sushi was very sticky. When you eat each individual sushi piece it’s supposed to come off easily and not stick to another. Also instead of having an employee ring you up for checkout, you can check out automatically by placing it on a machine.

I saw the sign ” order here”. Then, I follow the sign, ordered, paid. Then realized that they have dinner in and also take out. Anyway, with my take out sushi, I sat on a chair that was closes to the bar. When was having the sushi, a waiter gave me a menu and asked what do I need. I said, I already got my food from them. He said, “take out is just for take out. This is dinning table, only for dinning in.” I asked, ” does that mean I can’t sit here to finish my sushi?” He repeated, ” dinning in is only for dinning in.” This is the first place where I was kicked out even if I ordered the food from them. The food is just ok , the price is slightly over-priced ($29 take the take out before top), the waiter’s attitude was horrible. I felt be insulted.

Pros: service is speedy and it’s located next to the live pianist for a great ambiance anytime of day. It’s the best food/service/ambiance combo I’ve had within the CLT airport. Shoutout to Ed for phenomenal service!
Cons: it’s airport sushi. Of course you’re going to have better sushi outside of the airport, but this is a great spot given the confinements of the airport.
Pictured is the seaweed salad and sunset roll.
