If you’re anywhere near Hiram’s Roadstand, do yourself a favor and stop in. This legendary roadside spot has been serving some of the best hot dogs in New Jersey for decades, and one bite explains why it has such a loyal following. The deep-fried hot dogs come out perfectly crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside, tucked into a soft bun and topped exactly how you like it. Pair it with their crispy fries and you’ve got a simple meal that absolutely hits the spot every time.
The place has that classic, no-frills roadside charm that makes it feel like a true Jersey institution. You can feel the history the moment you walk up to the counter. It’s the kind of spot that reminds you that sometimes the simplest food is the best food.
You can also see why food legends like Anthony Bourdain celebrated places like this. Hiram’s represents exactly what he loved about food culture — authentic, unpretentious, and rooted in local tradition. No gimmicks, just incredible hot dogs done right.
If you love classic New Jersey eats, Hiram’s is an absolute must-visit.
I’ve driven by Hiram’s countless times but only tried it the other day. It gives me a very similar vibe to New Park Pizza in Howard Beach, the hot dog and burger version. IYKYK.
It’s cash only, you can order at the counter and there’s some seats both inside and some benches in the parking lot.
The chili cheese dog was very tasty. Standard bun but the frankfurter itself had a very snappy casing. Well-cooked and served HOT. The chili was also hot and there’s a slice of American underneath.
It melts together in a much better way than the standard nacho cheese like sauce I’m accustomed to.
So nice, we had it twice. I try not to eat too many hot dogs but if you’re craving it – do it right. I’d definitely come back to try some other things, maybe not after I just ate dinner but it was still a good idea.
Only thing is CASH ONLY. NO CREDIT CARDS.
The bread was super soft and moist, and the sausage was big and really satisfying. Definitely worth trying
Personally, the cheese hotdog was my favorite! ♀️
Cheese hotdog – great sausage, texture, taste and all was really nice.
Chili hotdogs- very tasty, I’m not the one go for chili but really enjoyed it.
Onion rings – amazing crunch and texture but lack flavor.
Overall good. Is it great? No, not for me. Will I be back? Not sure. But I enjoyed and appreciate the delicious food
Highly recommend the hot dogs and French fries.
The chili was a total winner—I wish they sold it separately!
