Such a fun and adorable spot! From the moment we walked in, we loved the vibe. The decor is creative and cozy, and they’ve done an amazing job making the most out of a small space; it feels welcoming, not cramped. The food is absolutely fantastic! I’m so glad someone had the genius idea to elevate crunch wraps into these fancy, jam-packed creations. Every bite was flavorful and satisfying. The cherry limeade and blueberry lemonade are both refreshing and delicious drink options that pair perfectly with the food. My boyfriend and I recently had a fun, low-key date night here, and it was the perfect casual but special outing. We’re already planning our next visit so we can try more varieties of the hippo pockets. The only question I still have is… where did the name “hippo pockets” come from?

I LOVE this place. I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while and finally did, and I am literally obsessed! The restaurant itself is a vibe, with a lot of great pop art and decor throughout. I’ve been here numerous times! I really like the birria, gyro, and bacon ranch. My favorite is the chicken bacon ranch, as well as the gyro. The birria was amazing however the Birria Consomé was on the saltier side. I would highly recommend this place! The food is absolutely amazing even the waffle fries and seasoned sour cream.

You gotta try this place! I tried the Birria, and the OG with vegan chorizo (between 3 of us, and we couldn’t finish it all!). We also had a mix of their Blueberry flavored Lemonade & Cherry flavored Limeade and WOW it was soooo good! We didn’t find out until later that they have a whole list of custom made flavored drinks that sound so yummy that I feel like they honestly deserve the rolling of a nice blunt before going to go try one, just because we can do that nowadays! As far as the atmosphere goes, we arrived pretty late at night, a few minutes before they were about to close, so you would think that we might have gotten less than impressive service BUT that would be far from the truth, these guys gave us VIP treatment, the space was really small, most people carry out but the service was not only friendly, it was really fast too! On our way out a group of 6 who have all eaten there before walked in and they removed the same warm friendly service from the manager himself. Oh I should mention that it wasn’t really “cheap” but the food was much more filling than I originally expected and if you order the Birria, it comes with this super sauce that really set it off like nothing else I’ve eaten all year, so I was TRULY impressed by the food, the service, and the vibe. Oh yeah, I took a few photos and made a short video, it was late so please don’t judge the footage or hold it against the place lol, I’m not getting paid for this review this is just an honest review inspired by some really good food that I thought was really unique and deserved a thorough, detailed review. Hippo Pockets has some seriously good food. The pizza-style crunchwrap was packed with flavor, perfectly crisp on the outside and cheesy inside. The waffle fries were golden and seasoned just right, a great combo overall.
That said, the wait time was rough. About 45 minutes to get the food, which definitely tested my patience. Still, once it arrived, it was clear the quality was there. If they can speed things up a bit, this place would easily be an all-around 5-star spot.

Cute, fun decor. Clean. The person who served us was upbeat, very efficient. Very helpful & friendly. Our pocket was delicious , big enough to split. Also split waffle fries. Will definitely go back. Welcome to the neighbirhood!!

Very easy to order: placed my order on my phone, drove out and picked it up, ate it at home. The only person I met was the woman who handed my food to me at the end. I got the fried fish and the OG pockets, and they’re great. One’s very satisfying, but I couldn’t stop eating both.

I didn’t know this place existed until a random restaurant search today for lunch. I had the cheesesteak and my wife had the chicken bacon. The chicken bacon bite I had was quite good. The cheesesteak was also good, though I wasn’t expecting the marinara sauce (it mentions it on the app but not in the menu board above the kiosk) and I found the pocket tasted more like some kind of Italian sandwich than a cheesesteak.
The space (formerly Herbie Butcher) is small though there is enough seating to accommodate a dozen people or so.
Overall good food and I will definitely be back to try other items on the menu (I just need to make sure to look at the ordering platform instead of trusting the menu board for ingredients).

I live about an hour north of the twin cities and I’ve been trying to get down to Hippo Pockets for the better part of 6 months—I recently found myself in Minneapolis running an errand, so it was the perfect opportunity to finally stop in! I have to say, this place is INCREDIBLE. I got their cubano crunchwrap, in addition to an OG crunchwrap to save for later, and my friend got their korean BBQ crunchwrap. Everything was delicious and very well put together, and the cherry limeade + blueberry lemonade was also wonderful! The general manager at this location chatted with us a bit and took it upon himself to make our first experience special—he brought out a sample of their strawberry milk cake and I have to say, if I lived closer then it’d be dangerous for my health because I’d be stopping in on the regular! The GM at the south Minneapolis location clearly cares about your experience here, and I will be recommending all family and friends to stop in if they every find themselves looking for a place to eat in the cities. I’ll be back, hungry for more!

Love this place. Only found it a couple of weeks ago but I live nearby and have already done a few pickups. The food is just fantastic, I’ve had three different ones so far and I think my favorite is the Korean BBQ but the others I had were also excellent. The few interactions I’ve had with the folks that work there are also great, they are kind and seem excited for you to try their food. I would be too if I made this. Great vibe too and the late hours are nice.
