Reviews
Himalayan House in Chula Vista is a gem! The Chicken Biryani was fragrant and flavorful, the garlic naan soft and fresh, and the momos absolutely delicious. On top of the amazing food, the service was excellent — warm, attentive, and welcoming. Generous portions, authentic taste, and great hospitality. Highly recommend!
The chai tea was good. The chicken and rice was a family portion.
First review.
Ordered the shrimp curry and rice. Also ordered the garlic naan bread. I truly believe the shrimp curry was the best curry I have ever eaten. I also tried the chicken curry which was ordered without spice and it was great too.
With the meal came a bowl of Lentil soup. This was also very delicious.
We ordered 2 orders of Naan bread which was pictured in the video.
Everything tasted so fresh. Highly recommend this place.
*****
We found this little restaurant that my husband was eyeing. We detoured from our original destination and landed here.
My goodness, the best stop ever!!! Everything we ate was perfect, perfect, perfect. We will be eating here more often.
From the delicious soup with all the bursting flavors. The seasoned sizzling salmon was amazing. The Naan was perfect with butter and cilantro. The yogurt sauce was to die for. Whatever my husband ordered, it was so good! I used the sauce and ate it with my rice. And they had some kind of a Chai tea that was so delightful.
The rice pudding was delightful. I’m definitely coming back as often as my budget allows!!!
From the start, the server seemed impatient and difficult to communicate with. When we asked questions or tried to clarify things, she appeared irritated and not very welcoming. She mentioned they were “closing soon,” and I specifically asked if we could still dine in. She said yes, so we assumed it was fine — but later we were told we were charged an 18% “large party” fee (even though we were only a group of five). The menu clearly stated that the fee applies to parties of six or more.
When my coworker called afterward to ask about the charge, the staff member explained it was because we stayed between 2–3 PM, even though they were supposed to be closed. That was never communicated to us at any point. If they had simply told us there would be an extra charge or that the kitchen was closing, we would have understood and chosen to leave.
The overall service felt unwelcoming. Our server never offered to-go boxes and made it seem like she didn’t want to be there. The atmosphere lacked the hospitality we expected. My portion — one entrée and one appetizer — ended up costing $45 after the unexpected 18% charge (an extra $21 on the bill). We even left an additional $15 tip, not realizing the service fee had already been added, which was frustrating considering how poor the service was.
On a positive note, the food itself was good, and none of us had any issues after eating it. However, because of the service experience, lack of clear communication, and the unexpected charges, I will not be returning. For the price and treatment, it simply wasn’t worth it.
