Beer Wanderers
With so many amazing breweries in town, it’s a tough sell being a pub unless, of course you have a great selection of regional brews. They do just that, with a few regional favorites and at least one rotating beer, generally a Bock in winter. Zehendner from Mönchsambach is often featured and if you don’t want to make the trek out there, it’s worth coming to Cafe Abseits just for that. I’ve never eaten there but it’s popular with locals looking for non-Franconian fare.

Great selection of German beers. Had a tasting paddle (bierprobe) then went on to bottles. Quite uncommon to find such a beer place in Germany. Bar staff were chatty in English and had plenty of recommendations.

We ordered the Masala Chai (twice!), Butter Chicken, Murg (Chicken) Korma, Murg Tikka (appetizer), and Naan/Garlic Naan, and every dish was a masterpiece—fresh, perfectly spiced, bursting with flavor and great value for money. You can truly taste the artistry in every bite!
This restaurant has now made it to the top of my list, and I’ll definitely be coming back to explore more of their menu. If you’re in Bamberg, don’t miss out on this hidden gem!
