Delicious, hospitable and just an awesome experience start to finish. The owner takes pride in his business and you can tell his whole heart is on his sleeve. It was so clear that he loves and values his staff. He came up to us to take drink orders as we arrived and joked with my mom about putting some cannabis in the chai. He was hilarious and very warm. He took our orders and he showered us with free sweets and samosa add ons as we left. What an amazing meal!! Would reorder garlic naan, frontier style goat and the dal palak. As a chef, I see the work that went into the meal we had and it was well worth every bit.

Thank you for your wonderful hospitality and amazing food. I visited you back in 2016 with my wife, and we still haven’t forgotten the taste.

The warmth and care you showed made the experience even more special. Looking forward to visiting again someday with family.

Unfortunately, my experience here was disappointing. The owner was rude and charged a different price than what was listed on the menu. When I questioned it, I was told I had to pay in cash because the total was $19.50, which did not make sense. I have never been told card payment is not accepted below $20.

There was also constant pressure to order more food, which made the experience uncomfortable. When my friend and I asked to pay separately, the owner became irritated and rude.

To add, the restroom smelled nasty.

As for the food, the biryani was average at best. Overall, the service and cleanliness issues overshadowed the meal. I will not be returning and do not recommend this place.

The steak churrasco was superb—tender and richly flavored—paired with a standout chicken curry. While the price tag (two sodas and two dishes $88) is steep, the quality justifies it for a memorable dining experience. Recommend.

Extremely disappointing experience at Himalayas Restaurant, Houston.

From start to finish, the owner’s behavior overshadowed everything else. He was rude, unprofessional, and came across as excessively greedy. The food itself didn’t help either, was pretty subpar.

What made the experience uncomfortable was the constant pressure to order more food. Even after we clearly said we were done, he kept insisting we add more items, repeatedly saying we wouldn’t be full. When we declined, he actually berated us for ordering “too little.” This kind of pushy upselling felt aggressive and completely inappropriate for a restaurant setting.

It didn’t stop there. He asked if we wanted dessert, we politely said no, yet he sent one to the table anyway- without our consent. When it was time to pay, he made the now-infamous “cash discount” comment that many others have mentioned in reviews. We said we didn’t have cash. Then we noticed a 15% gratuity added to the bill. When I asked if gratuity was usually charged only for larger parties, he bluntly replied that they charge it even for two people and said, “We have our own rules.”

I didn’t argue or react negatively- just said okay, thanks and left. As I was leaving, he made a nasty remark, saying he had sent the dessert “for free” and yet I was still asking questions about the bill. That comment sealed it for me. Sending something on the house after a customer repeatedly declined it, and then using it as leverage to justify shady billing practices, is extremely manipulative and greedy.

Overall, the experience felt uncomfortable and dishonest. I won’t be returning, and I definitely wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Outstanding food! This is a very small restaurant with very big flavors. They will make you want to over eat just like your grandmother would! On a Saturday night they were properly busy. It’s BYoB, so bring a Pinot noir or a rioja, or maybe a grenache and you’ll be ready for anything. We had a biryani, curry, and a meat plate, all was excellent.

Terrible experience at Himalayas Restaurant in Houston. The owner was rude and even made an offensive comment about Gujarati people, completely unprofessional.

The food was below average, soggy biryani, bland tawa gosht, and definitely not worth the high prices. He kept pushing us to order more, even when we said we were done, which felt greedy.

To top it off, he offered a discount only if we paid in cash possibly to avoid taxes. Very shady. Not going back and wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Great food, and the owner has generally been very polite to me BUT what people say IS true. He is incredibly pushy and always saying to order more food, even though it is always to much. Teh food does make great leftovers for many days, and I would highly recommend the mutton biriyani. Aga’s isn’t as good but Shiv Sagar (Same Plaza) and Shri Balaji Bhaavan are both great. Don’t let the owner mess with you, but great for take out.

Had a great experience at Himalaya. The food was A+ quality, truly reminded me of authentic Karachi desi cuisine. You can tell Mr. Lashkari uses his own fresh spices—flavorful yet light, no heartburn at all. Hospitality was warm and respectful; you give respect, you get respect.
Looking forward to our next Houston trip – Himalaya round two is a must.
