Great food and service. My family has been dining at Hilltop for as long as I can remember and they continue to be our pick for comfort food and Evansville specialties. Photos here are the fried chicken livers with white gravy, sweet & sour cole slaw and mashed taters. Also pictured a pork tenderloin with seasoned fries. Service was friendly and attentive. Pricing very reasonable. GO THERE!

Good food, Great service! The chicken livers and gizzards were tender and fried to perfection. The fish platter was as good as it was 40 years ago. Generous servings, old favorite side dishes, German potato salad, German fried potatoes, etc. and the prices are very reasonable!

Not a bad place to eat. Fried chicken was delicious! An Evansville staple. This restaurant has rich history. That being said, we came for the food and it was ok. Pricing is in line with service making this an affordable place to eat.

You’ll find very good food in a traditional, old landmarkish atmosphere at the top of the hill in old town Evansville. The meatloaf was outstanding and the homemade au gratin potatoes were ok. Service was excellent and attentive. The parking lot is dirt and gravel and a bit dusty on a dry summers day if that matters to you. We really like this restaurant that states they have been in business since 1839! We’ll be back.

I agree that the food and service has gone downhill. Everyone at our table ordered fish sandwiches, they came out way too fast, and were all undercooked. Also, it’s concerning seeing a man holding a baby in a diaper back in the kitchen touching food. I’d recommend using the restroom before you go as well. We won’t be back.

Absolutely wonderful! Great food and portions. Only thing got wrong was we ordered a double burger and got a single. They made it right and it was not the waitresses fault. Other then that great visit!

The food was pretty good, nothing fancy and a nice but small salad bar.

Got the fried chicken it was moist but the breading was so so. Well tried the chicken & dumplings. The dumplings are wide noodles the German potato salad was bland and served warmed.

The experience this restaurant just keeps getting better and better. After a short closure and a very slight remodel the atmosphere here is the same but with a little bit of a brighter feel. The food is always was excellent the photos that I posted or the brain sandwich and the pork balls. This was the first time I’ve had the pork balls I highly recommend them as well as the cheese cubes which now come and cheddar or pepper jack. The staff here was excellent and friendly and very helpful. I cannot recommend this place enough one of the awesome hidden gems here in Evansville.
