Overall, I found the food rather average. The ashak (veggie dumplings) were decent, the mint yogurt and lentil sauce was a good combination. But the entrees fell flat. The falafel was average, and the borani banjan (eggplant) was a little tangy but didn’t have much more flavor than that. The kabli rice (rice with carrots, nuts and raisins) was fluffy and had nice floral notes, but the spinach rice was very bland. The complementary salad and bread were definitely fresh. The decor was pretty and service was good. This does seem like a family run establishment so I do wish them all the best, but the food didn’t really do it for me.

Cute spot nestled in the corner of this little shopping plaza. The service was so nice. The atmosphere was calm and the interior clean. Food was absolutely delicious. You sit down and immediately get a refreshing salad and soup. Then comes out the bread and it’s perfect for the dipping sauces or even to dunk in your soup. The entrees are fantastic and I’d definitely like to try more of the menu next time I go.

I’m really upset with this restaurant. I live in Michigan and was visiting a friend who brought me here and I’m just very mad I have to go home and not eat here again. Unfair! The food here was SO SO SO good!! The filet kabobs were so tender and amazing, chicken ones too. Chocolate baklava was to die for. Sauces were so tasty. I can’t say enough good things about this place! YUM!!

Salmon and Chicken Kababs were amazing. We really enjoyed the 3 kinds of rice. The Choclava was a nice modern take on a classic dish! The service was amazing all of the food was brought out promptly and all of the waitstaff was attentive to our needs. Thank you Moose!

Grateful for an excellent experience at the recently opened Hills of Herat – Basking Ridge restaurant! Loved the delicious Afghan cuisine which included a very tasty soup, filet mignon, chicken, a couple types of Afghan rice, naan, several chutneys, multiple desserts~firni, rasmalai & baklava, and of course the amazing shir chai! The really warm hospitality of the owners, chef and staff was remarkable! Br. Wali (owner, chef) spent time with us sharing his experience in Afghanistan and his passion for Afghan food. Very much pleased with our experience at this beautiful restaurant & would highly recommend! #HillsofHerat

Service was above and beyond. The staff members that tended to us were so insightful, giving us the best recommendations. The chicken and lamb were tender and full of flavor. “Choc-lava” was absolutely delicious. This was my first time here, but they really made a great impression. I will definitely be back.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Hills of Herat, and I must say it was an exceptional experience that surpassed all expectations. This hidden gem has truly won my heart with its delectable selection of chicken, beef, and lamb dishes, and the warmth and generosity of its owners made the evening even more memorable.
